⚾️: Ross Leads Noles Past Jacksonville

TALLAHASSEE, Florida – DeAmez Ross tied a career high with three hits, including a leadoff home run and the go-ahead single in the eighth inning, to lead Florida State to a 6-4 victory Tuesday evening over Jacksonville. The Seminoles four-game winning streak is its second-longest of the season.

Ross finished with a solo home run and two singles, scored three runs and had two RBI in the leadoff spot. His home run on the second pitch from Jacksonville starter Blake Barquin was his second of the season, and FSU’s third leadoff home run of the year. Ross tied the game on Cam Smith’s double in the fifth inning, and gave FSU a 5-4 lead on a two-out single in the eighth.

Jaime Ferrer added three more hits and now leads FSU with 68 on the season; his 20th double of the year tops his freshman season total and provided the final margin in the eighth inning, scoring Ross.

The Dolphins countered Ross’s leadoff home run with a two-run home run from Hogan McIntosh ....

TALLAHASSEE, Florida – Jackson Baumeister allowed a pair of runs in the first inning, but none over the next six as Florida State beat Mercer, 4-2, Friday evening in front of 3,873 fans at Dick Howser Stadium. Baumeister’s 7.0 innings pitched matched a career high and he evened his record to 4-4 on the season. Titan Kamaka had two RBI – a go-ahead home run and a double in the fourth inning – and Treyton Rank had three hits, a run, an RBI and a stolen base. Mercer took the early lead with a pair of runs in the opening frame before Baumeister settled in. The Jacksonville right-hander allowed just three runners over his final six innings; he struck out eight hitters to win his second straight start. FSU scored a single run in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings to take the lead. Colton Vincent hit an RBI double and drew a pair of walks, while Rank tied the game with an RBI single in the third inning. SOUTH BEND, Indiana – Jackson Baumeister pitched 6.0 innings and struck out nine hitters – while allowing just one run – in Florida State’s 3-2 victory at Notre Dame Friday evening. Doug Kirkland earned his second save in as many games with 2.1 scoreless innings. The Fighting Irish stranded eight runners in the game as Baumeister needed 106 pitches to complete his six innings. He has struck out nine batters in back-to-back games as he improved to 3-4 on the season. Andrew Armstrong got two outs in the seventh inning before Kirkland earned his second career save with 2.1 scoreless innings to close out the contest. The Seminoles scored a pair of runs against Aidan Tyrell in the third inning on Jaime Ferrer’s two-run double. TALLAHASSEE, Florida – Jamie Arnold and Doug Kirkland combined for five hitless innings as Florida State beat Virginia Tech, 4-3, Sunday afternoon to salvage the final game of the series. Arnold improved to 2-4 on the year, while Kirkland did not allow a baserunner over the final two innings for his first career save.

At the plate, James Tibbs hit his second home run of the weekend, a two-run shot in the third inning, while DeAmez Ross and McGwire Holbrook provided RBI singles.

Holbrook began the game with a knock to the shortstop and just beat out the throw which allowed Tibbs to score from second for the game’s first run. This extended Holbrook’s six game hitting streak, all of which were singles.
