March 9, 2021 Delbert “Del” E. Harris, age 87, of Bonne Terre, Missouri, passed away Thursday morning, March 4, 2021, at his home in the loving care of his wife and daughter. He was born January 19, 1934, in Lincoln, Illinois, the son of Herman and Pearl (Thomason) Harris. Del and Mary Ann Vaughn were married July 9, 1967, after a whirlwind romance which ensued after a set-up by Ray and Dolores Harris (Del’s brother, married to Mary Ann’s sister) along with other events that kept bringing them together. They quickly fell in love and shared 53 wonderful wedding anniversaries together. They lived in St. Louis, Missouri for 50 years before moving to the slower life of the country. ....

released from the hospital. the family had just put in a hospital bed for her in the upstairs bedroom. when the fire broke out, dolores ran to the new bed and couldn t get her mother out. neighbors say the flames could be seen for blocks. before saturday s fire, the harris home was a place so many would gather. ruby harris was known and loved by everyone nearby. my grandma was everybody s mother, everybody s grandmother. she took care of you when you were homeless, fed you when you needed food. reporter: saturday night it was daughter dolores turn to take care of their mother. then the fire broke out. she ran to her mother s bedroom trying to save her. her daughter tried to get her. the daughter tried to get her but she couldn t because she was she couldn t. reporter: officials say ruby died saturday night. dolores was rescued upstairs, rushed to the hospital in critical condition but passed away sunday afternoon. it s a total mess. it s unbelievable. rep ....
