REESE – The Bad Axe boys basketball team traveled to Reese on Monday night for what would prove to be the prep hoops equivalent of a heavyweight bout – a good one.
The game, which matched up two talented, evenly matched teams fighting for supremacy in the Greater Thumb Conference West, featured several lead changes, a tie score at the end of regulation, a final decisive possession and a young Hatchets lineup that showed the poise of a much more experienced squad. Unfortunately for Bad Axe, the Rockets would prevail, 82-80, in overtime.

BAD AXE – The Bad Axe boys basketball team snapped visiting Laker’s five-game winning streak on Thursday night. The Hatchets won, 59-38.
Bad Axe is now 7-1 overall and 6-1 in conference play. Laker is 6-3 overall and 5-3 in league play.
Leading the way for the Hatchets were Aaron Sowles with 25 points, Noah Kervin with 13, DeCarlos Sageman with 10, Jensen Emerick with 7 and Jake MacPhee with 4.

SEBEWAING – The Bad Axe boys basketball team used a 22-point first quarter to jump out in front of host Unionville-Sebewaing on its way to a 65-26 win Thursday night.
The Hatchets improved to 5-1 overall and 4-1 in conference play. The Patriots are now 1-5 overall and 1-4 in the Greater Thumb Conference.
Bad Axe’s Noah Kervin opened the game with back-to-back three-pointers – hitting a total of four on the night – on his way to a 17-point performance. Senior Jensen Emerick led all scorers with 19, and Aaron Sowles finished with 16. DeCarlos Sageman scored 10, Ben Nugent chipped in 2, and Griffin Meinhold had 1.

Bad Axe 68, Vassar 25
BAD AXE The Bad Axe boys basketball team returned to its winning ways on Saturday afternoon, overpowering the visiting Vassar Vulcans on its way to a 68-25 victory.
The Hatchets (3-1, 2-1) controlled the game from the opening whistle, hitting shots from the perimeter and limiting Vassar’s offensive opportunities. The Vulcans (4-1, 2-1) labored to keep up with the Bad Axe offense, which used its speed to convert turnovers into easy points. In the first quarter, the Hatchets outscored Vassar 28-4, and Bad Axe led 38-14 heading into halftime.
