80 WORKERS IN TRUCK CRASH! Misheck Makora The incident happened in Klapmuts, outside Cape Town, early yesterday. EMS spokeswoman Deanna Bessick said they received a call about the incident at 7am, and 12 ambulances and two rescue cars were sent to the scene. “Two patients are seriously injured, 27 sustained moderate to serious injuries and 51 sustained minor injuries,” she said. Transport MEC Bonginkosi Madikizela wished the injured workers a speedy recovery. He said the truck driver was trying to avoid crashing into a car when he lost control. He also urged drivers not to go over the vehicle capacity. “We urge drivers, especially of trucks, to always drive with caution and not exceed the total vehicle carrying capacity. Cops hunt for suspect after finding a bag with an automatic rifle and ammunition By Nomalanga Tshuma Share Cape Town - Police are looking for a male suspect who evaded arrest on Saturday, during a crime prevention operation in Khayelitsha. The suspect fled on foot when he was flagged down by metro officers conducting a crime prevention patrol in Khayelitsha, for driving while using his cellphone, on the corner of Govan Mbeki and Oscar Mpheta streets. On searching the suspect’s car, police discovered a bag containing an automatic R5-rifle and 67 rounds of ammunition on the back seat. According to the City’s Safety and Security department, the firearm and ammunition were booked in at Harare SAPS for investigation, which will include ballistic and fingerprint tests. ....

POLICE divers in the Southern Cape are searching for a two-year-old girl who went missing after an accident on Thursday afternoon (21 January). Police spokesman Captain Malcolm Pojie said a 34-year-old mother who was travelling with her two kids lost control of the vehicle and drove over a cliff into the ocean. One of the children, an eight-year-old boy, managed to get out of the car with minor injuries but the mother died and the two-year-old has been missing since then. “At first light, the search for the missing girl resumed with the deployment of police divers and emergency personnel on land and sea in the vicinity of Voelklip as well as the Herolds Bay beach area. ....
SAPS The vehicle rolled as she drove along Voelklip Road. Rescuers found one of her children safe and they are searching for her other child. A woman died when her car rolled along Voelklip Road and plunged into the sea at Herolds Bay in the Garden Route. The Western Cape health department s emergency services rescued her eight-year-old son, but were still looking for her two-year-old daughter. Unfortunately, the adult female sustained fatal injuries, said spokesperson Deanna Bessick. We would like to extend our sincere condolences to the friends and family of the deceased, she said. The accident happened when the woman and her two children were travelling along the R404, near George, at around 12:30 on Thursday. ....
