⚾️: Ferrer Doubles Twice in Close Defeat

TALLAHASSEE, Florida – Right fielder Jaime Ferrer doubled twice, his team-high 14th and 15th of the season, in Saturday’s contest against Virginia Tech. Ferrer now leads FSU with 56 hits and a .350 batting average.

The teams traded runs in the second inning, with each side scoring courtesy of three hits. The Hokies added a run in the third and fourth innings to take a 3-1 lead against FSU starter Conner Whittaker.

Ferrer doubled to score James Tibbs in the sixth inning and cut the deficit back to one, but the Hokies answered in the top of the sixth against Andrew Armstrong. Pitching in his 24th game of the year – and fifth consecutive – Armstrong allowed one run over the final 4.0 innings.

Virginia Tech’s Drue Hackenberg pitched a complete game, striking out 12 batters. DeAmez Ross hit FSU’s third single of the ninth inning to score Treyton Rank, but FSU’s tying run was stranded on third to end the game.

⚾️: Bullpen Powers Noles Past Hokies

TALLAHASSEE, Florida – Jamie Arnold and Doug Kirkland combined for five hitless innings as Florida State beat Virginia Tech, 4-3, Sunday afternoon to salvage the final game of the series. Arnold improved to 2-4 on the year, while Kirkland did not allow a baserunner over the final two innings for his first career save.

At the plate, James Tibbs hit his second home run of the weekend, a two-run shot in the third inning, while DeAmez Ross and McGwire Holbrook provided RBI singles.

Holbrook began the game with a knock to the shortstop and just beat out the throw which allowed Tibbs to score from second for the game’s first run. This extended Holbrook’s six game hitting streak, all of which were singles.

In his next at-bat, Tibbs unleashed a powerful strike over the right field fence to send himself and Colton Vincent home for a three-run lead. The sophomore finished the series with five hits and took sole possession of home run leader on the team with his 1 ....

⚾️: Cam Smith Homers at NC State

RALEIGH, North Carolina – NC State scored two runs in the bottom of the 10th inning to beat Florida State, 5-4, Sunday afternoon at Doak Field in Raleigh. Cam Smith had both of FSU’s extra-base hits in the contest, including a go-ahead solo home run in the top of the 10th. Andrew Armstrong pitched four scoreless innings in the contest. He was one of eight Florida State pitchers to appear in the game. Armstrong entered with the bases loaded and one out in the third inning with FSU already trailing 2-0. Armstrong struck out both batters and proceeded to get an inning-ending strikeout in the fourth and fifth innings as well. When Armstrong did run into trouble in the seventh inning – the first two Wolfpack batters of the inning reached – Armstrong fielded a sacrifice bunt attempt and threw out lead runner at third base. RALEIGH, North Carolina – Nander De Sedas and Jaime Ferrer both homered in Florida State’s 14-3 loss Friday night at NC State, accounting for all three of FSU’s runs in the contest.

Florida State took a 2-0 lead in the second on De Sedas’s fourth home run of the season, scoring Jordan Carrion. Carrion reached on a leadoff single to extend his hitting streak to seven games.
