Unfortunately, i dont have my other sergeants that are the ones doing most of the trainings. We have been doing this nonstop through the years. We just recently did the command staff training for the ten hours, and it was refreshing to hear our supervisors and command staff hear how its changed in crisis intervention. Now, the officers are embracing it, theyre practicing. I read most of the reports that come to my desk for 5150s, and i see how the officers are doing a great job up there. Theyre building a rapport with people in crisis, theyre not rushing, and i think thats what we want at this point. Were motivated to continue doing our work. I know sometimes you dont hear the good jobs that officers are doing, but im telling you, i hear every day on the radio off
The police dont and arent they train them to do things that others cant, but we all thought this should be dealt with through public health. I am really amazed at the progress here, and im really glad that our city is leading in getting into this idea of taking care of our most challenged individuals in this valley desperate time for People Living on the streets in dealing with so many crises.
