Identify Black Fungus As Epidemic: Centre To States

New Delhi: Centre asked all the states to declare mucormycosis or black fungus as an epidemic. The Union Health Ministry sent a letter to the states and asked them to identify the mucormycosis disease under the Epidemic Diseases Act .
According to the report, any case of Black fungus has to be reported to the health ministry. Confirmed or under testing, all the cases should go to the ministry.
Health Ministry Joint Secretary Lav Agarwal in the letter wrote that “All government and private health facilities and medical colleges have to follow guidelines for screening, diagnosis, management of mucormycosis.” ....

India logs 13 per cent fall in new COVID-19 cases in a week; still highest globally: WHO

As per the WHO estimates, cumulative cases in India currently stand at about 24.68 million and total deaths are at about 270,284.
India registered a 13 per cent decrease in new COVID-19 cases in the past week but the number of fresh infections was still the highest around the world, the WHO has said.
The number of new cases and deaths continued to decrease with just over 4.8 million new cases and just under 86,000 new deaths reported globally in the past week, a 12 per cent and 5 per cent decrease respectively compared to the previous week, according to the COVID-19 Weekly Epidemiological Update Data received by the World Health Organization from national authorities as of May 16. ....

COVID-19: India records highest single-day coronavirus fatalities

The 4,529 new fatalities include 1,291 from Maharashtra, 525 from Karnataka, 364 from Tamil Nadu, 265 from Delhi, 255 from Uttar Pradesh, 231 from Punjab, 153 from Chhattisgarh, 146 from Rajasthan, 145 from West Bengal, 124 from Haryana and 111 from Bihar.
India s COVID-19 death toll on Wednesday climbed to 2,83,248 with a record 4,529 fresh fatalities, the highest toll in a single day since the pandemic began, the Union Health Ministry said.
With a total of 2,67,334 fresh infections, India s total tally of cases climbed to 2,54,96,330.
The active cases dipped to 32,26,719 comprising 12.66 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has improved to 86.23 per cent, the data updated at 8 am showed. ....
