Revenge angle eyed in death of ex-Jolo top cop

The former top cop of Jolo, Sulu who was gunned down in Maguindanao last November was killed by at least one relative of the group of military intelligence operatives who were slain in the past by policemen in the province.
Gen. Debold Sinas, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said they have already filed a case of murder against seven people in connection with the death of Lt. Col. Walter Annayo, the chief of police of Jolo.
The town was where four military intelligence operatives led by Maj. Marvin Indammong were killed in June last year in front of a police station. ....

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has welcomed the issuance of arrest warrants against the nine policemen accused of killing four Philippine Army (PA) intelligence personnel in Jolo, Sulu last June.
“Albeit issued belatedly, we are glad that the Regional Trial Court Branch 3 of Jolo found prabable cause to issue warrant for the arrest of the nine suspects in the murder of four Army intelligence personnel,” Major Gen. Edgard Arevalo, AFP spokesperson, said Friday.
“The arrest and subsequent detention of the suspects is without bail indicating that the court considers that the evidence of their guilt is strong.” ....

Court orders arrest of cops accused of killing Army men in Jolo

The Jolo, Sulu Regional Trial Court (RTC) has ordered the arrest of nine policemen accused of killing four soldiers in the town last June, the Department of Justice (DOJ) said Friday.
The court issued the arrest warrants on Thursday, said Prosecution Attorney Honey Delgado, spokesperson of the Office of the Prosecutor General.
Delgado said the court is scheduled to hear prosecutors motion for a hold departure order (HDO) against the accused on Friday.
Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra confirmed this and said the court also issued hold departure orders (HDO) against the accused. ....

The Armed Forces of the Philippines urged the dismissed police officers involved in the fatal Jolo shooting incident last year that left four Army officers dead, to surrender after warrants for their arrest have been issued.
We urge the respondent police personnel to surrender else the AFP, the Philippine National Police, and other government agencies will vigorously search, find, and deliver them to court without delay to face trial for multiple murder, AFP spokesman Major General Edgard Arevalo said in a press statement Friday. ....

THE prevailing lockdown in the province of Sulu may have caused the delay in the issuance of arrest warrants against the nine dismissed policemen who were charged over the killing of four Army intelligence officers.
Office of the Prosecutor General spokesperson Honey Delgado on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, said the courts in Jolo might not be operating at full capacity because of the lockdown.
If Sulu is still on lockdown, the courts might not be operating in its full capacity may or may not slow down the process, she said in a message to reporters.
The province of Sulu is on lockdown from January 4 until January 17, 2021 to block a new variant of Sars-CoV-2 from nearby Sabah in Malaysia. ....
