Almost $4000 raised at fish fry for Youth Academy

COLUMBUS, Ind. – Hundreds of residents turned out on Friday at the American Legion Post #24 for the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) fish fry. This year, $3800 was collected for the BCSO Youth Academy.
Sheriff Matt Myers and the whole sheriff’s department want to thank everyone who donated to the cause.
A special note of appreciation goes to the American Legion for hosting the event and once again helping to make the Youth Academy possible.

Pitch Columbus invests $20,000 in start up company

COLUMBUS, Ind. – Velocities, a partnership among the Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce, Elevate Ventures, and the Dimension Mill in Bloomington, is looking for early-stage companies to make pitches to them to vie for a $20,000 investment for their business. Pitch Columbus is a competition for ideation stage, high growth, and high potential companies in Bartholomew County.
Some of the attributes in start-up businesses that Velocities and Pitch Columbus are seeking include those with no more than $50,000 in trailing revenue over the past 12-month period, a commitment to high-growth ventures, a clear understanding of the competitive environment, well-articulated problems and proposed solutions, and identified target customers and go-to-market strategies. ....

BCSC says no determination yet on prom, graduation

COLUMBUS, Ind. – At the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation (BCSC) board meeting on Monday evening, Superintendent Dr. Jim Roberts said that all the schools in the system will operate on a totally in-person basis for the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year.
The two variables to work out in the next few weeks are what to do about the prom and graduation ceremony for each high school.
With regard to prom, Roberts said that it will be modified in some fashion. Concerning graduation, he said the only thing he knows right now is that the commencement venues would not be occupied to full capacity. ....

United Way's annual meeting are virtual celebrations

COLUMBUS, Ind. –Â United Way of Bartholomew County (UWBC) is holding its annual meeting differently this year by honoring the businesses, nonprofit organizations, and people who create opportunities with a series of digital celebrations planned over the next week.
Bartholomew County residents are invited to watch their email and social media pages for a plethora of materials that celebrate the impact their partners had in 2020.
UWBC is also saluting its 2020 award winners. The United Way of Bartholomew County kicked off the celebration Monday with a video announcing Diane and Patrick Ward and their family as the winners of the Individual Give Award. Enkei was recognized as the Corporate Give Award winner. Mary Beth Wert was named Volunteer of the Year and Jenni Carr is Advocate of the Year. The Live United Award, the highest honor given by UWBC, went to Columbus Regional Health. ....

Boil advisory issued for Royal View addition in Petersville

PETERSVILLE, Ind. – The Eastern Bartholomew Water Corporation (EBWC) has issued a boil water advisory for all customers in Peterville’s Royal View housing addition.
EBWC says any water that is to be consumed or used for cooking purposes should be boiled for at least three minutes and then let cool before consuming.
The boil water advisory for the Royal View neighborhood will be lifted on Wednesday, April 7, at 4 p.m.
