After 22 years, a popular seaside pub in Falmouth Heights is closing and a new restaurant, called Shipwrecked, will open in its place on Thursday, May 27. New owner Alex Khan from Newton closed on the British Beer Company property last week. The sale includes the adjacent 23-room Seaside Inn, renamed at The Heights Hotel. âI want it to be Falmouth-focused and beach-focused,â Mr. Khan said. Interior and exterior renovations are underway at the restaurant. The most obvious addition to date is the crushed-shell courtyard with dining tables and a long bar top overlooking Vineyard Sound. The patio is a new addition. ....

Other Irish dishes are top choices, too, of course. Local owners and managers at restaurants with an Irish theme mention that diners at the restaurants or for takeout can also get other favorites for St. Patrick’s Day week or every day. Some offer a beef or lamb stew, Shepherd’s pie, fish and chips, corned-beef hash, blood sausage. etc. It’s the corned beef and cabbage, though, that gets added to some menus for March 17 and before, and the Irish dish that gets asked for most often around the holiday. ....
The Barnstable Patriot St. Paddy s Weekend Cape Cod Beer has planned a weekend bash March 12-14 featuring a specialty food menu from JP s Twisted BBQ. The taproom menu includes Bangers and Mash, Corned Beef and Cabbage, Irish Stew and Shepherd’s Pie. All COVID rules and regs apply. You do not need to pay in order to sit inside the brewery, but there will be no live music inside. Weather permitting, the Pourmen will play two outdoor sets Saturday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. and 3 to 4:30 p.m. Admission is $5. Open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Tables will be first-come, first-seated. Scholarships, altruism, arts, St. Paddy s Day, Notes The Barnstable Patriot April 1 is the application deadline for the Historical Society of Santuit & Cotuit’s annual scholarship. Applicants must be graduating high school seniors who either reside or attend school in the Town of Barnstable and are entering college in fall 2021. One scholarship of $2,000 will be awarded. Students are considered on the basis of their above-average academic record; participation in school and community activities, including part-time work; and financial need. I ve been far from boastful of my own outdoor holiday light display. A few strands of lights - big retro bulbs, thank you - strung up in a couple of trees with great effort, whilst haunted by fears of plummeting to earth from the step ladder or jamming a tree branch into my face. So flash. No bling. No blow-up stuff. No blaring holiday tunes. So modest, and yet so deeply satisfying when I gaze from a window into a frigid, drab night brightened by cheery color. Until the gray squirrels descend and chew the wires, draining the night of all joy. ....
