Rotarians clean up graffiti Rotarian Paul Ratterman paints over graffiti at the carport across from Lahaina Public Library. LAHAINA Over 92 “tags” were scrubbed off walls, fire hydrants, signs, trash cans and other surfaces around Lahaina by members of the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunrise. Additionally, the members painted over graffiti on the Kahoma Stream bridge, the wall of the carport facing the makai Lahaina Public Library lawn, and along the seawall. “We are seeing an epidemic of graffiti in town,” said Theo Morrison, who organized the cleanup. “It must stop.” All tags were documented, and photos were sent to the Maui Police Department for identification. ....
Jan 9, 2021 As part of a project to beautify Lahaina Town, members of the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunrise replanted a medicinal herb garden at the Baldwin Home Museum on Dec. 19. The garden once belonged to Dr. Dwight Baldwin, who used Native Hawaiian and western plants in his healing practices. Today, the educational garden is home to plants like mamaki, olena, Hawaiian chili pepper and aloe. LAHAINA Lahaina News Editor Mark Vieth on Dec. 15 received the prestigious Mahalo Award for the year 2020, which was presented by Barbara Potts, newly elected president, and Richard Endsley, co-founder and past president of the Lahaina Complex Education Foundation. This award is normally presented at the annual awards ceremony in the springtime, but with the advent of COVID-19, that event had to be canceled. The annual award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to education and the community of Lahaina. ....
