Council squashes claims Flintshire could get more town markets in immediate future

The issue was mentioned during a meeting of Holywell Town Council earlier this week.
Cllr Lynda Carter – who runs her own recycled school uniform stall whilst also helping on the town council’s information stall at Holywell’s weekly outdoor market – raised the issue.
She explained her concerns that Holywell market was being ‘forgotten’ as towns such as Buckley, Connah’s Quay and Flint have all allegedly expressed an interest in hosting a market of their own.
Cllr Carter said: “We’ve worked really hard to get the market back up and thriving again only for COVID to come along and see to that almost overnight. ....

Holywell councillor steps into mayoral role for final time

HOLYWELL has appointed its next mayor.
Councillors met virtually on Tuesday evening to appoint Cllr Ted Palmer as their new town mayor through to May 2022.
It follows his service as deputy mayor under Cllr Lynda Carter who handed the title to him digitally via Zoom – with a physical hand over of the mayoral chains to take place at a later date under COVID secure conditions.
On his appointment, Cllr Palmer said: “I must congratulate you Lynda on your year – you’ve done some innovative things and I look forward to serving as the mayor for the final time as I won’t put myself forward to be mayor again.” ....

Holywell businesses explain why they set up shop during pandemic

HOLYWELL’S main shopping street is slowly getting back to normal after months of lockdown.
Since the Welsh Government gave the green light for non-essential retailers to welcome back customers almost a month ago, there are more reasons than before to pop along to the high street.
We paid a visit to the town centre last Thursday – April 29 – to get a glance at what the ‘new normal’ looked like in Holywell.
The town centre is home to a range of varied independent business run by local residents as well as some well-known brands like Peacocks and Iceland.
There is also a community museum which opened on the High Street, preserving aspects of local history for all to come and see – when it is safe to do so. ....

Tributes paid to Holywell councillor who was "a shining example of a citizen of the world"

TRIBUTES were paid at a recent Holywell Town Council meeting in memory of a recent loss.
Members of the council held a silence in honour of Councillor Dolores Phelan, of Rhodfa Wenlo in Greenfield, who sadly passed away recently.
An active member of the community, Dolores served the council for over a decade in the Holywell central area since 2012.
Dolores also served on the Town Centre Committee and was a governor of Ysgol Maes-y-Felin.
Ms Phelan was an passionate member of the Transition Holywell Group and played an important role in delivering the 100 years since World War One celebrations held in the town in 2018. ....

Holywell Council discuss potentially dangerous situation with local supermarket trolleys

TOWN council members have agreed to act after concerns were raised about shopping trolleys being a potential ‘life-threatening’ danger in their area.
Holywell Town Council members met virtually where a concerned resident had brought up the issue of a ‘near miss’ by the town’s Tesco supermarket – and says this isn’t the first time it has happened.
Members of the council were informed of the shopping trolleys being ‘dumped’ over the side of a nearby bridge which overlooks one of the pathways into the Greenfield Valley Heritage Park.
A letter, penned by resident Roberta Owen, was shared with councillors that recalled an incident involving one of the supermarket’s trolleys that came within a couple of yards of hitting a passer-by. ....
