The city of Bellaire has selected Assistant Chief of Police Onesimo Lopez Jr. as announced its new chief of police (KPRC)
BELLAIRE, Texas – The city of Bellaire has selected Assistant Chief of Police Onesimo Lopez Jr. as its new chief of police.
Lopez Jr. will succeed Chief of Police Byron Holloway upon his retirement in July.
He has served with the city since January 2019 after the search for a candidate to serve as assistant chief and meet the qualifications needed to be appointed chief of police, according to a release. Before the assistant chief position, Lopez worked with the Pearland Police Department for 24 years.
COVID-19 has impacted all communities across Texas and Houston, but small businesses especially have faced unique challenges due to the need to shut down in-person activities during the lockdown. Even now, a year after the pandemic began shuttering economic activity across Texas, many small business are working to survive while dealing with the uncertainty of an ever-changing set of restrictions. Leisure and hospitality industries including hotels, bars, and restaurants have laid off significant portions of their workforces. Asian-owned businesses, such as those in Houston s Bellaire neighborhood, were impacted even earlier due to the prejudices that came into play as coronavirus cases spread through the country, and continue to face challenges.

On Sunday afternoon, officials with the city of Pasadena said the boil water notice is still in effect for that area, and they are waiting approval from TCEQ on when they can rescind the advisory.
Area utilities and many other major water supplies in the area remained under boil orders Sunday. You can see a list of entities that have active boil order notices here.
Water utilities across Texas issued the boil orders last week due to low water pressure. Some have even had to shut off entire supplies after pipes burst.
