'Well used on weekends': Council quiet on paid parking facts

Sunshine Coast Council has refused to reveal usage and financial figures from Mooloolaba s paid parking amid calls for a review on the charges.
The fee was touted as the best way to pay off the loan of $23.5 million for the construction of the building, instead of adding $18 a year for 20 years to every ratepayer s bill.
Questions from the Daily on how many cars used the Brisbane Road facility went unanswered but a spokesman said it was well used on weekends and during events.
Councillor Christian Dickson said multiple residents and businesses had told him the carpark was near empty most days. ....

Construction has started on a $300,000 Sippy Downs park renovation which could lay the foundation for a further $1 million worth of upgrades for the area.
Sunshine Coast Council division six councillor Christian Dickson said the first stage of the Albany Lakes Park upgrade, which included a children s playground, was expected to be completed in June.
 
Other major additions to the 650 sqm site included park furniture, a connection pathway providing greater access to amenities, a playground safety fence to stop children running onto the nearby road, a drainage system and garden beds. ....

Development Watch Lyn Saxton earlier this month lamented the fact the revelations hadn t come out after the initial council approval, as they could ve launched a judicial review and sidestepped the costly process.
She said she expected any issues raised with council processes would have to be dealt with separately, not as part of the ongoing legal case.

Within the thousands of pages released was an email trail which revealed council planning assessment officers had been preparing to recommend refusal of the billion-dollar development just weeks before it was eventually recommended for, and granted approval by councillors in June, 2018. ....
