People are cleaning up damage just east of the metro in prairie city. 3 businesses sustained some structural damage because of high winds. Part of the awning at this caseys was ripped off and thrown several feet away. The overhang of a bank was also damaged. There were no reports of injuries there. Knoxville saw some of the worst wind damage though. One gust shot this twobyfour through a truck windshield. The Southeast Side of town also saw extensive tree damage. Police say strong winds ripped two air conditioners off the roof of the nearby walmart. Some minor injuries were reported there. Officials say no one was seriously hurt. The city of knoxville saw the worst of last nights storms. 42 02 i was just inside the back door it started raining hard and the winds picked up quite a bit and in a matter of 10 seconds something hit the back of the house then the lgiths were out and it was all over so it happened a matter of half a minute or so. 42 17 wind gusts picked up chris normans garage and dropped it in his neighbors front yard. He says there wasnt much warning before the storms hit. Norman says he is just thankful no one was seriously injured. But his home was just one of several that were damage in the storm. On the other side of town police say strong winds ripped two air conditioners off the roof of the walmart. Some minor injuries were reported there. But Officials Say no one was seriously hurt. Today we were following along with the National Weather Service Crews as they surveyed the damage. Meteorologist Jennifer Mcdermed caught up with them in knoxville as they measured the strength of the storm there. In knoxville at the walmart on the south side of town where we joined one of two of the National Weather Service Survey damage teams. The nws has confirmed that an ef1 tornado did damage to the building. Which included roof damage, a trailer being tipped over, and debris scattered in a field behind the walmart.
