City approves Brownfield Plan for former Johnson s Studio building Cheboygan Daily Tribune CHEBOYGAN At the June 22 Cheboygan City Council meeting, council members approved the Brownfield plan for Dionysus, the new developer of the former Johnson s Studio Building on North Main Street. This plan the Brownfield plan also is associated with 225 N. Main St., the former Johnson s Studio building, said Cheboygan City Manager Tom Eustice. It is a separate program from the obsolete property rehabilitation act. So they re going through two separate programs to get tax incentives and funding sources. Brownfield plans are detailed plans of how the redevelopment of properties are going to work and the steps the investors are planning to take to accomplish what they want to do with the property. These plans are reviewed at the state level.

City to amend contract with city assessor Cheboygan Daily Tribune CHEBOYGAN The City of Cheboygan will be moving forward with an amendment to the contract with its assessor, as Clayton McGovern would like to move on from his position with the city. It s something that we had discussed for many years, that he would get out when I got out, said Cheboygan City Manager Tom Eustice. Eustice is listed as the Cheboygan City Assessor and McGovern has a contract with the city to assist Eustice in that capacity. Eustice is scheduled to retire from the City of Cheboygan, as city manager, at the end of the month.

Cheboygan Daily Tribune CHEBOYGAN At the May 11 Cheboygan City Council meeting, the council members voted to schedule a public hearing for May 25 to gather input on the city s application for just over $1.9 million in grant funding. The grant would be a Community Development Block Grant through the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. The money will be used for the Mill Street water main replacement project and well system improvements project. This grant opportunity is something we looked at in the last meeting in April, said Cheboygan City Manager Tom Eustice. In fact, we set a public hearing for May 11 to look at trying to obtain $2 million to help us with the waste treatment plant facility.

City council approves site plan for marijuana center on city s east side Cheboygan Daily Tribune CHEBOYGAN On March 23, the Cheboygan City Council members reviewed the proposed site plan for a marijuana business planning to go into a property on the city s east side and approve the plan. Attitude Wellness LLC whose parent company is Lume Cannabis Company was requesting approval to locate its business at 1116 E. State Street. Lume Cheboygan wants to develop a marijuana provisioning center, said Cheboygan City Manager Tom Eustice. In February, the city council had approved the transferring of the permits from Attitude Wellness and DNVK 1 LLC between the former First Community Bank property on East State Street and a downtown building at 300 N. Main Street. The building on Main Street did not fit the business model for Lume s businesses, so the two companies agreed to swap locations because the old drive through bank location was much better suited for the curbside pickup a
