City approves Brownfield Plan for former Johnson's Studio building

CHEBOYGAN — At the June 22 Cheboygan City Council meeting, council members approved the Brownfield plan for Dionysus, the new developer of the former Johnson's Studio Building on North Main Street.
"This plan — the Brownfield plan — also is associated with 225 N. Main St., the former Johnson's Studio building," said Cheboygan City Manager Tom Eustice. "It is a separate program from the obsolete property rehabilitation act. So they're going through two separate programs to get tax incentives and funding sources."
Brownfield plans are detailed plans of how the redevelopment of properties are going to work and the steps the investors are planning to take to accomplish what they want to do with the property. These plans are reviewed at the state level.
