good morning. i m dave clark. i m tori campbell. it s thursday, april 28th. one man is dead an a veteran officer is recovering from serious injuries after what police call a fight for her life. this happened near dublin boulevard close to the 580/680 interchange. ktvu channel 2 reporter claudine wong was the first reporter on the scene and joins us live with what led up to the violent confrontation. reporter: well, kicked, punched and slammed to the ground. that s how officers are describing this. the transient involved in this is dead. the officer is now in the hospital. this all happened in the lot of that dodge chrysler jeep stone ridge auto center right across the way from where we re standing. the officer radioed in after spotting a suspicious person and then called in to say shots have been fired. at this point, it s still unclear how many. that s what investigators are trying to confirm. but this whole incident took three minutes. while police say they don ....

in east san jose. it happened on st. andrews place. claudine wong is in san jose with more on who the police believe is responsible. reporter: they have a 28- year-old suspect in custody. he s here at the san jose police department right now. they are in the process of interviewing him in what is being described as a slow progress. police trying to piece together what lead up to this deadly assault. both the 2-year-old suspect and 24-year-old victim lived at a inhome care facility. for what identify been able to determine it s called the capri home. at 7:30 last night a worker at that home called police. when they got to the home they announced the man dead. we do not know what type of care they were getting or how many other people live there. we don t know if any weapons were involved. they are still trying to piece all of that together. when i left the officers at the scene outside of the investigation, i was told there were no obvious signs of any trauma. i do ....
