I am so grateful for the opportunity to serve. I promise you and im going to keep serving and fighting in the same way that you have seen in the past. Thank you. [applause] and i can tell you that one of the things as i travel across the country, everyone always wants to know how in the world we got the best federal delegation in the country. All i tell them is that South Carolina is blessed. We have a great group of legislators that fight every day, that get what we want and they fight for it. They just dont go along with the pack. They fight for it. I am so thankful that so many members came to be supportive of tim. I want to make sure that we have our senior senator speak who i often, who i enjoy working with and who has been there every time i have called him, senator lindsey graham. [applause] thank you, thank you very much. Well, tim, if you add up all of the courses that we flew together, people will begin to understand how the government works. Here is the good news. I made 80
Drilling. Now we will go live to the house floor here and cspan. Guest pleased to be here. Host you are here to talk about the Electoral College. The election wrapped up over a month ago. Why are we talking about the Electoral College and what happens today . Guest this is the next step in the election. The Electoral College is not a place but a process. Today is the process where the electors get together in each state, and they go through a complex process. But it is generally managed by the secretary of state or some other officials, and they give their votes for the electors in that state for a particular president. President obama has 332 Electoral College votes and romney has 206. So in the states where romney won, those electors will vote for him. And in the next step is for them to send it to six different places in washington, d. C. , but the main thing is they send a record of this to the senate. The senate than tallies them, puts them in two mahogany boxes. One box and they
And its less than an hours drive from my Congressional District. We mourn all the people who lost their lives on friday, including 20 Elementary School children and six educators. Over the past few years, we have seen innocent lives lost to gun violence in a supermarket parking lot in arizona, a Movie Theater in colorado, an army base in texas, a College Campus in virginia and now an Elementary School in connecticut. The weapons have spawned these tragedies and long past time that we control them. The Second Amendment guarantees the right to bear arms but does not guarantee an absolute right to militarystyle, high caliber, semiautomatic, combatassault rifles with high capacity magazines to anybody who wants them. It just does not and must not let Interest Groups persuade us otherwise. We need restrictions and sensible gun control legislation. We need them here and we need them now. Our children are counting on us and we really need to not let them down. I yield back. Mr. Murphy i yield
Kaine speaks at the human rights dinner in washington. Lets bring in my colleague nbcs katy tur. Lets talk about this back and forth, particularly about the russian issue. I heard you there commenting or at least when we heard donald trump make that comment about its not so bad if he likes me, ill like him. Very interesting way to do International Relations but whats the reaction been to this back and forth about the russian president. Its been mixed. Donald trump is getting backup when he says Vladimir Putin is a stronger leader and more respected leader than president obama. He is getting backup from mike pence as well as surrogates. Its become a bit of a litmus test for republicans on however are you willing to go to support donald trump, if you will. Paul ryan not going that far, refusing to say putin stronger leader than president obama. Marco rubio calling him a dictator. Those are two prominent republicans who had trouble with him in the past, once again refusing to get behind h
