Cal Fire suspends burn permits in Calaveras and Tuolumne counties

Following the Campo Fire that sparked Thursday, Cal Fire crews made the decision to suspend burn permits next week.
Battalion Chief Kevin Bohall told KCRA that burn permits are always required every year on May 1, but the agency decided to make the change to suspend permits beginning May 3 at 8 a.m. due to drier conditions in the region.Sign up for our Newsletters
Much drier than we ve normally have at the end of April. Burning conditions are definitely elevated from what we would normally get, Bohall said.
Bohall recommended that residents check in with local agencies before burning any kind of debris, and the agency encourages alternatives to burning such as chipping, composting or dropping off organic debris at green waste disposal sites. ....

SOLANO COUNTY (CBS13) – Retired firefighter Frank Moore has been around fires for decades. With the Campo Fire still burning in Calaveras County and widespread drought conditions, he worries we’re in a race against the clock with Cal Fire still in the middle of its hiring season.
“If it’s dried out like it’s doing right now, we are going to have a lot of fires,” he said

Mandatory evacuations issued in Calaveras County as crews battle fire

Evacuation orders were downgraded to warnings as crews continue to battle a fire in Calaveras County.The Campo Fire in Campo Seco has burned 150 acres as of 5:30 p.m., according to the Calaveras County Office of Emergency Sevices.The mandatory evacuations were issued for the area of Loera Road, parts of Watertown Road and parts of Paloma Road.Officials said a temporary shelter site has been established at Calaveras High School, located at 350 High School Street in San Andreas. That site will be open until 8 p.m.Residents are asked to avoid the area and evacuate immediately if advised to by law enforcement.This is a developing story.Stay with KCRA 3 for the latest. ....
