after months of negotiating, lawmakers on capitol hill have finally agreed on a $900 billion relief package. good evening everyone, i m frank sommerville. the bill includes $600 stimulus payments for most americans, $300 in weekly unemployment assistance without a job, and more than $200 billion for struggling small businesses. many democrats are calling the agreement a survival package. reporter: yes, the senate s top democrat, chuck schumer said it is not what some republicans and democrats would have liked but it is the first step. lawmakers on both sides knew they needed to act before leaving washington for christmas and before unemployment benefits run out at the end of the month. moments ago, in conversations with the committee, the house finalized an agreement. after months of tense negotiations, they reached a deal sunday on a long-overdue covid relief package, mitch mcconnell making the announcement on the senate floor. will be another major rescue package

the harrisburg heritage center hosted this talk. our next presentation is from mr. tim smith. we go way back, close to 30 years of knowing each other. he is originally from the baltimore, maryland area. he is a licensed battlefield guide here at gettysburg national park. he has authored several books. he is a former instructor at harrisburg area community college. he does appear regularly on pennsylvania cable network s battle walk series. he is a research historian with the adams county historical society. the one thing they neglected to put in his biography is he was our lead historian here at the heritage center. we need to add that to your resume. his topic today is on john burns. without any further introduction i will give you tim smith. [cheers and applause] thank you. so, i will call you matalin. we were together in the white house for many years. you just came from the funeral service for senator mccain. could you talk about that in your relationship with him? first of all, and delighted to be here and to let it be with you. we have known each other for 30 years. before you were who you are. but it was really a very moving service because it had so many of the themes that senator mccain has really been identified with in terms of service to country both in a military way and also civilian and his time and attributes really spoke to that. it was incredibly well-planned but what was so fascinating was that obviously senator mccain planned all this, that he had asked president w. bush and president obama to be the speakers to people who defeated him and they made comments about the fact, isn t it int
