search warrant. the office is fully cooperating but not providing any additional information. i think that s best discussed with the district attorney s office. the investigation s continuing and i d rather not speculate where the investigation is at this time. reporter: the da s office is tight-lipped, only saying it received certain items pertaining to a search warrant. smith points out the courts have made the criter for a permit more flexible since the 2011 case when someone needed to show just cause, a good reason to ge stricter a just cause for a permit. unlike what the court decision was, because we believe that the appellate court will overturn. so we re still operating under the just cause doctrine. reporter: now we talked today with the applicant behind that 2011 case who says he has withdrawn his lawsuit. at this point, what this investigation will hshow is not yet known, but the sheriff says it has had no effect on morale or day to day operations. we re al
reporter: he was full of life, loved football, candy. that s how they say they will remember him. it s a walk to van e. blanton elementarychool a walk he took every day. i m here with a big smile. everyone knew king carter was bigger than life and we will remember him for that. reporter: the first grader was killed over the weekend just a few blocks away from his school. miami-dade police say he was playing outside an apartment complex near 103rd lane and 12th avenue when two men started shooting. it is unclear who they were targeting. one of those bullets struck king carter ending his education and football. a day after the shooting, hundreds of people in the community took to the streets to march against gun violence. they stood by carter s grieving family. corner with his eyes open. i found my son, man. reporter: they also called for change and justice. we know somebody saw something. reporter: according to king county county schools w know he is 21st. a cris
