bryce williams on the air. he died this afternoon after shooting himself. let s begin team coverage. reporter: it was supposed to be a light morning assignment. alison parker in front of the camera, photo journalist adam ward behind it when a gunman opened fire. 24-year-old parker and 27-year-old ward were killed as colleagues and viewers watched on tv. people behind us in the news room crying. reporter: vicki gardner seriously injured. police zeroed in on vester flanagan aka bryce williams. flanagan later died at the hospital from a self-inflicted gun shot wound. flanagan called abc news and sent a letter explaining the charleston church shooting was his tipping point. our investigators have a copy of it and its use in the course of this investigation will be continuing. reporter: parker s boyfriend, a wbdj anchor tweeted we were very much in love. we just moved in together. i am numb. today her colleagues were going to celebrate a new job before the two moved away
