MANILA - The country's daily average of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases went up by 60 percent from June 27 to July 3, the Department of Health (DOH) reported Monday. From 662 per day from June 20 to 26, the number of Covid-19 cases reached 1,057 daily from June 27 to July 3. The latest case bulletin showed that there were 7,398 new cases and 74 verified deaths in the recent week. For the same period, 19 cases were added to the tally of severe and critical infections, which went down to 497 from the previous week's 591. Only 15.3 percent or 381 out of the 2,487 intensive care unit (ICU) beds are in use, while 19.9 percent or 4,342 of 21,791 non-ICU beds are utilized. To date, about 70,780,972 or 78.64 percent of the country's target population (90,005,357) are vaccinated against Covid-19, including 77.66 percent of 8,721,357 senior citizens. The latest case bulletin showed that there were 4,634 new cases and 51 verified deaths in the recent week. For the same period, 14 cases were added to the tally of severe and critical infections, which went up to 591 from the previous week's 554. Only 14.9 percent or 391 out of the 2,628 intensive care unit (ICU) beds are in use, while 18.1 percent or 4,034 of 22,251 non-ICU beds are utilized. To date, about 70,358,612 million or 78.17 percent of the country's target population (90,005,357) are vaccinated against Covid-19, including 77.48 percent of 8,721,357 senior citizens. In a message to reporters Tuesday, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire confirmed the latest move and said guidelines are being drafted. The Department of Health has yet to identify the number of children ages 12 to 17 years old due for booster shots. Earlier, National Vaccinations Operations Center chief Health Undersecretary Myrna Cabotaje said booster administration for the age group would start as soon as guidelines are released. From 340 per day from June 6 to 12, the number of Covid-19 cases reached 436 daily from June 13 to 19. The latest case bulletin showed that there were 3,051 new cases in the recent week and six verified deaths. For the same period, 15 cases were added to the tally of severe and critical infections, which went up to 554 from the previous week's 498. Only 14.6 percent or 385 out of the 2,636 intensive care unit (ICU) beds are in use, while 18.2 percent or 4,033 of 22,156 non-ICU beds are utilized. Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said the number of Covid-19 infections continue to rise nationwide but assured that there is no surge in cases.
