Lakeland Rowing Club take home medals at World Rowing Virtual Indoor Championships

One rowing club has made its community proud, taking home three medals at the all-important championships.
Celia Whittam, Samantha Ayers and Nick Cowan, of Lakeland Rowing Club, were among those representing Great Britain at the World Rowing Virtual Indoor Championships, which took place from 23-27 February.
The trio raced in real time against competitors on rowing machines in homes and gyms throughout the world.
Celia, from Troutbeck, took silver in the women’s age 60-plus 500m category in one minute, 48.7 seconds – almost two seconds faster than her time to win the same medal at BRIC.
Eaglesfield woman Samantha won bronze in the women’s lightweight age 50-54 2,000m race, with a personal best time of seven minutes, 34.9 seconds. ....

A Cumbrian rowing club has won three medals at the World Rowing Virtual Indoor Championships.
Lakeland Rowing Club’s Celia Whittam, Samantha Ayers and Nick Cowan were among the rowers representing Great Britain in the championships, contested online this week, racing in real-time against competitors on rowing machines in homes and gyms across the world.
The trio qualified for the worlds after picking up medals at Decemberâs British Rowing Indoor Championships (BRIC).
Celia, from Troutbeck, took silver in the womenâs age 60+ 500m category in 1 min 48.7 seconds, almost two seconds faster than her time to win the same medal at BRIC. ....

Members of Keswick-based Lakeland Rowing Club won medals in four categories at British Rowingâs annual Indoor Championships held earlier this month.
More than 1,800 rowers from 42 countries took part in the event, which was contested online due to COVID-19, racing side-by-side in real time on rowing machines in homes and gyms around the world.
Seven Lakeland members entered, and thanks to their results, the medallists have all qualified for the 2021 World Indoor Rowing Championships, to be held online in February.
Samantha Ayers tied for gold in the womenâs lightweight age 50-54 500m race, finishing in 1 minute 44.7 seconds, a dead heat with a competitor from Germany. ....
