One rowing club has made its community proud, taking home three medals at the all-important championships. Celia Whittam, Samantha Ayers and Nick Cowan, of Lakeland Rowing Club, were among those representing Great Britain at the World Rowing Virtual Indoor Championships, which took place from 23-27 February. The trio raced in real time against competitors on rowing machines in homes and gyms throughout the world. Celia, from Troutbeck, took silver in the women’s age 60-plus 500m category in one minute, 48.7 seconds – almost two seconds faster than her time to win the same medal at BRIC. Eaglesfield woman Samantha won bronze in the women’s lightweight age 50-54 2,000m race, with a personal best time of seven minutes, 34.9 seconds.
