Reimagining Berton Braley’s 1919 post WW1 poem “Opportunity” through the voice of a modern day First Nations spoken poet – this film for Deakin University brings Braley’s timeless worlds to life in a contemporary and mesmerising manner, by focusing on humankind’s relationship with the ocean as a metaphor for life – beautiful, serene and inspiring one moment, turbulent and unpredictable the next.
In the closing shadows of a global pandemic Braley’s words are particularly pertinent more than a century later, especially for a young, hopeful school leaver setting out to find their place in a wholly changed world. Deakin University has today launched a new campaign, created by TBWA\Melbourne in partnership with Revolver which looks to lift Deakin’s long running ‘Future belongs to the Ready’ platform to a more emotive level.
 
Set to Berton Braley’s circa 1917 poem “Opportunity”, directed by Revolver’s Dani Pearce and featuring Jamaican/First Nations poet and multidisciplinary artist, Aurora Liddle-Christie, the film focuses on humankind’s relationship with the ocean as a metaphor for life – beautiful, serene and inspiring one moment, turbulent and unpredictable the next.
Though written more than 100 years ago, Braley’s poem conveys a sense of hope that fits perfectly with today’s student generation’s desire to move forwards, build resilience and find pride in their own achievements. ....

Deakin University launches new campaign with TBWA Melbourne

Deakin University has launched a new campaign, which takes a more delicate approach to the university’s ‘Future belongs to the Ready’ platform.
The campaign, developed by TBWA Melbourne, in partnership with production company Revolver, features Jamaican/First Nations poet Aurora Liddle-Christie reading Berton Braley’s poem ‘Opportunity’.
Set by the ocean, the film “focuses on humankind’s relationship with the ocean as a metaphor for life – beautiful, serene and inspiring one moment, turbulent and unpredictable the next.”
