The National Weather Service has put Luzerne County under a flood warning through Friday morning as a combination of heavy rain and melting snow could cause âsignificant flooding.â As of Thursday morning, the weather service was forecasting the Susquehanna River to crest at 33.7 feet in Wilkes-Barre around 7 a.m. Saturday. The weather service classifies that level as a âmajorâ flood stage. If the prediction holds true, it would be the highest river level since the record 42.66-foot crest recorded in September 2011. Moderate to heavy rain was expected to develop Thursday afternoon, combining with temperatures projected to reach into the 50s to melt what remained of last weekâs heavy snowfall. ....

A Wilkes-Barre man is locked up on child pornography and indecent assault charges in Luzerne County. Police arrested Joshua Edwards, 26, of Barney Street on Tuesday. Edwards is accused of inappropriately touching a 6-year-old girl and making videos of the incident. The videos were found in an email on Edwards laptop. The charges against Edwards include child pornography, indecent assault, corruption of minors, and endangering the welfare of children. ....

A flood watch means there is potential for flooding based on the forecasts. The Susquehanna River at Wilkes-Barre is currently at 2.28 feet, but the predicted rainfall combined with snow melt has the potential to result in moderate river flooding late Friday into Saturday.
