River communities brace for possible flooding

The National Weather Service has put Luzerne County under a flood warning through Friday morning as a combination of heavy rain and melting snow could cause âsignificant flooding.â
As of Thursday morning, the weather service was forecasting the Susquehanna River to crest at 33.7 feet in Wilkes-Barre around 7 a.m. Saturday. The weather service classifies that level as a âmajorâ flood stage.
If the prediction holds true, it would be the highest river level since the record 42.66-foot crest recorded in September 2011.
Moderate to heavy rain was expected to develop Thursday afternoon, combining with temperatures projected to reach into the 50s to melt what remained of last weekâs heavy snowfall. ....
