Noida: Only a little over 50% vehicles registered in Gautam Budh Nagar have got the HSRP number plates even as the deadline for installation of the high security plates was Thursday. Of the total 7.5 lakh vehicles registered in the district, only 3.7 lakh vehicles have got HSRP number plates till Thursday, according to officials of the transport department. Those who are yet to get the number plates will be liable to pay Rs 5,500 as fine from Friday in case the transport department resorts to checking such number plates. TOI had earlier reported that only 1.7 lakh vehicles had got HSRP number plates till February 1, following which, the transport department had made it mandatory for vehicle owners to have the number plates in place to get transport-related work done, including registration certificate, transfer of registration, change of address, renewal of registration, issuance of NOC, issuance of a new permit, issuance of special permit, etc. ....
The iron angles weighed more than 30 tonnes GREATER NOIDA: The driver of a trailer truck loaded with iron angles died in a freak accident on NH-91 on Tuesday when the cargo, weighing more than 30 tonnes, pierced the cabin and crushed him under its weight when he jammed the brakes to avert a collision with a private bus in front that had suddenly slowed down. Carried by momentum, the angles on the back of the trailer lurched into the cabin just as the truck came to a grinding halt. The driver, 50-year-old Mubarak Khan, was declared dead by the time he could be extracted from the mangled cabin and rushed to a community health centre in Dadri. ....
