Fr it earned fame at the courthouse. Derek has recently earned fame for his brandnew book as part of the emerging civil war series. Its called hellmira, prisoner of war camp. Please welcome derek maxfield. Thank you very much. Im very pleased to be here to talk about my latest project. You know, prisoner of war camps have been a surprise to me. Ive studied the civil war since i was quite young and, you know, knew the lengths of the tragedy during the civil war. But it was eyeopening to me the extent of the humanitarian crisis that unfolded over the course of those four bloody years. Over 56,000 died in prisoner of war camps over that time. Just over 500,000 incarc
On october 7th the reports back to richmond and rights to le suggesting he is ready to come back, but at least with the army of Northern Virginia, lee wanted a more vigorous person to take charge. He never recovered the use of his right arm. At this point because of the bullet exiting through his throat he cannot speak. Lee is having none of that. On october 17, he orders long streak to return and resume command of the first core of the army of virginia. North of the james river. Lee is going to take charge of the defenses around petersburg itself. By march 29th, the siege petersburg has been going on since june 18 of 1864. At this point it runs 37 miles. His last the outside railroad is going to be controlled by Confederate Forces at five forks. April 1st of 1865, union troops were captured at five forks to the south. At that point, lee has no option but to evacuate richmond in petersburg. Longstreet leaves petersburg about 7 00 that night. Within two hours, he has his first troops fr

He is an awardwinning author based out of berkeley, california. He is a native out of minnesota, a graduate of Carleton College who went on to do his graduate work in european history at columbia. He spent some time at Oxford University press. He worked with gabor. Many volumes that gabor put together, those features were delivered just speeches were delivered right here. Tj have a little bit of time yesterday to talk about his work and talk about the craft of writing, and the conversation reminded me of the fact that there is professional academic writing and there is positive writing.
