palestinian refugee camp. matt bradley caught in the firefight last night. good day, everyone. i m andrea mitchell in washington. we begin our second hour of andrea mitchell reports with the gun violence epidemic in our country. according to the gun violence archive, there were 17 mass shootings in 15 states over the long july 4th weekend. leaving 18 people dead and more than 100 others injured. it brings the annual tally to 351 this year on track to surpass previous records. right now in el paso, texas, sentencing is underway in one of the deadliest mass shootings in u.s. history, the 2019 walmart shooting, where the shooter pleaded guilty to federal murder and hate crime charges for targeting hispanic migrants. family members of his 23 victims are making impact statements in court later today. the gunman is likely to be sentenced to 90 consecutive life sentences. in philadelphia, a 40-year-old man has been charged with five counts of murder after allegedly opening fire
president kamala harris visited the scene to pay tribute to the victims. police say the suspected gunman fired more than 70 rounds from a rooftop shortly after the parade got underway is today morning. [noise] [noise] [noise] authorities have charged 21 year old male robert crimo with seven counts of murder, and say could eventually face more charges. these are just the first of many charges that will be filed against mr. crimo. i want to emphasize that. there will be more charges. we anticipate dozens more charges, centering around each of the victims, psychological victims, physical victims. so far, police have not identified a motive. but they say crimo allegedly planned the attack for weeks. he disguised himself as a woman to make his escape. officials say he legally purchased multiple weapons, including at least two rifles before the shooting. they also revealed that police had to prior contacts with a suspect in 2019 a family member reported he threatened to kill ev
the suspect dressed in women s clothing. that is the disguise he used to try to get away after the shooting. police say this is something that had been planned for several weeks. the gunman used that disguise to try to sleep through the crowd. but investigators say he left behind a legally purchased assault rifle that the atf was able to trace to this person of interest now, who is behind bars as we speak, not yet charged. police say he fired off more than 70 rounds from a roof overlooking the parade. as we are learning more about some of the six victims killed and the nearly 50 others hurt by the gunshots and all the way hospital after this happened. we expect another update in just about an hour. you have the white house and all federal buildings with flags flying at half staff in memory of the highland park victims. we have a lot to get to over the next 60 minutes. cathy park is in illinois, pete williams, mike is covering the white house and we are joined by clint who
