including immigration. but it s very much like industrial revolution, you know? it changed the country massively, it brought great influx of population into the cities, but it also brought great poverty and concentration in the cities. and that industrial revolution produced a progressive era, produced a union movement, it produced a two decade period of reforms to mitigate the changes. and that s what i think, you know, when i m optimistic about america, i know that we have declining wages. i know we have increased inequality, i know we have family breakdown, but i also know it also creates a politics, a reform politics that brings change that makes it possible to have a country that can be successful. we in a second gilded age? we re in a second gilded age, for sure, given the level of inequality, but we re also in an incipient reform era. just look at the cities. look at what s happening in the cities on minimum wage, paid sick days, on a whole variety of, you know, re
