Published on (Photo Courtesy of UAlbany Athletics) The UAlbany Great Danes are headed back to the America East title game for the first time since 2018 after taking down the UMBC Retrievers 14-12. While the Danes rolled early and took a commanding 7-1 lead late in the first quarter, the top-seeded Retrievers weren’t going down that easy. UMBC went on a 6-1 run from the 1:04 mark in the first through the 2:42 mark in the third to cut the Albany lead to 8-7. Albany veered back on course and used a three-goal run of their own to pull ahead 11-7 with 46 seconds left in the third. However, UMBC was able to use a four-goal run to tie things up at 11 with 9:52 remaining in regulation. Albany’s Kyle Casey and UMBC’s Brandon Galloway traded goals midway through the fourth before two straight from Corey Yunker and Ron John put this one away and sealed the win for the Danes. ....

Dylan McIntosh scored five goals to lead fourth-seeded Hofstra’s 10-9 upset effort over the top seeded Blue Hens at Shuart Stadium. Hofstra’s all-time leading scorer and CAA offensive player of the year Ryan Tierney was held scoreless, but the Pride still prevailed. First, they built a seven-goal first quarter lead and appeared to have the game in hand, only to have the Retrievers chip away and a four-goal run lead to a tie game with 10 minutes to go. Then, after Brandon Galloway’s fifth goal of the day brought UMBC level once again, Corey Yunker had to score the final go-ahead tally with 2:27 two play, and Ron John iced it with 1:13 to go. UAlbany topped UMBC 14-12 and advance to take on Vermont in the America East Semifinals on Saturday at 10 a.m. at UMBC. The game will be aired live on ESPNU. ....
