Six slaughterhouses set for inauguration in Nagaland

Our Correspondent Kohima, Aug. (EMN): At least six new rural slaughterhouses spread across six districts of Nagaland are all set for inauguration, the department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS) has informed. The Deputy Director of AH&VS department, Dr. Ilang Iheilung, told Eastern Mirror that construction of the abattoirs located in Niuland, Tseminyu, Pfutsero, Tizit, Asukuto and Kiphire, has been completed and ready to provide hygienic meat to the rural population. The official said that the department had set up the six rural slaughterhouses under the National Livestock Mission (NLM) on public-private partnership (PPP) mode with Centre-state funding pattern of 75:25. Though the construction, installation and other aspects are completed, he said the abattoirs could not be inaugurated on time due to the COVID pandemic and that the facilities are yet to be handed over to the district administration and the rural local bodies. 'Creating smart city must include educating public to be smart citizens'

Our Correspondent Kohima, June 25 (EMN): Smart city projects and plans must ensure that every individual has access to clean drinking water, said KD Vizo, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, on Saturday even as he suggested the possibility of harvesting rainwater to address water shortage. ‘Water is a precious resource and therefore sustainable method of harvesting rainwater needs to be explored so that supply remains consistent throughout the year,’ said Vizo, who is also a member of Board of Directors, Kohima Smart City Development Limited (KSCDL). He was speaking on the occasion of Smart City Mission 7th anniversary on the theme, ‘Sabka Bharat, Nikharta Bharat’, at Capital Cultural Hall in Kohima. “Today in Nagaland, it needs to start from the basics, such as ensuring cleanliness in the city and making efforts to clean the city.
