Mokokchung and Wokha undertake SHS campaign

Our CorrespondentMokokchung, Sep. 24 (EMN): As part of the ongoing “Swachhata Hi Seva” campaign, the PHED Mokokchung division conducted a mass shramdaan and cleaning of water bodies in 14 villages on September 23 and 24 in Mokokchung district. Cleaning of water bodies activities were initiated by WATSAN committee, wherein the community also participated in removing the wastes in and around the villages. Swachhagrahi of the villages took the responsibility of door-to-door collection of plastic waste, besides educating the community on the importance of waste segregation and the negative effect of plastic waste. The segregated plastic wastes were later collected by the department and deposited at the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) under Mokokchung Municipal Council. In a related programme, the PHED, Wokha division, launched the Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) campaign on September 23 at Etsutchukha Pump site in Wokha district headquarters. Six slaughterhouses set for inauguration in Nagaland

(EMN): At least six new rural slaughterhouses spread across six districts of Nagaland are all set for inauguration, the department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS) has informed. The Deputy Director of AH&VS department, Dr. Ilang Iheilung, told Eastern Mirror that construction of the abattoirs located in Niuland, Tseminyu, Pfutsero, Tizit, Asukuto and Kiphire, has been completed and ready to provide hygienic meat to the rural population. The official said that the department had set up the six rural slaughterhouses under the National Livestock Mission (NLM) on public-private partnership (PPP) mode with Centre-state funding pattern of 75:25. Though the construction, installation and other aspects are completed, he said the abattoirs could not be inaugurated on time due to the COVID pandemic and that the facilities are yet to be handed over to the district administration and the rural local bodies.
