shoo shootings. near a shelter for migrants sunday, and the day before, eight people were killed in a mass shooting at an outlet mall on the other side of the state. investigators are looking at whether the gunman was motivated by far-right extremism. an image of the shooter s body shows him wearing all black tactical gear and he had a patch on his clothing with the letters, rwds, which police believe stands for right wing death squad. he also apparently had a lot of neo-nazi and white supremacist social media posts. we re now hearing from a survivor who hid inside a bathroom closet with 12 other people. the gunshots, just, it sounded like a war zone. if it was horrifying and it felt like you were in a dream. like, just shock, but we were in a bathroom closet. and we were just in the closet trying not to be heard, crying, praying, people were trying to call 911. we couldn t dial out. i just remembered thinking, oh, god, he s coming in here next. and when i was crouc ....
everyone. welcome to our viewers in the united states and around the world. i m christine romans. we begin this morning with the mass shooting over the weekend at an outlet mall in allen, texas. a source telling cnn investigators now believe the attack that killed eight and wounded at least seven hours was connected to right-wing extremism. in addition to this audio, disturbing video of the initial moments of the saturday attack captured on this rear view cam. you can see the gunman get out of the vehicle, we ve frozen the image at the moment the shooting begins. we basically turned to watch. and as we were watching, the shooter goes right across he s not running, but he s in a deliberate assault-type move. and he either had an m-16 or an m-4, he was firing, and shot about four or five shots as he proceeded towards the hamburger place. i don t know who will he shot. a few moments later, we saw a police officer come across in front of us, like he was in pursuit of th ....
this, i don t know what the gunman s problem was, his motive, but it country mental health that killed these people. it was an automatic rifle with bullets. i m a gun owner, i have guns. former police officer, army officer, but these ar-15s, they have to get off the streets or this is going to keep happening. condolences and prayers won t bring these people back. we need action at the federal and state level for better gun control. i m saying that as somebody who loves guns. what texas is doing in a big-time way, we are working to address that anger and violence by going to its root cause, which is addressing the mental health problems behind it. we know that texas had been lagging in addressing mental health for years, and that s why, over the past three sessions, we ve added almost $25 billion to address mental health. we re in the waning days of a session right now where we will be adding even more funding. yeah. it s just really, right now, there are law enf ....
