Staten Island Considering Ways to Boost Economic Recovery
A new report details the ideas, from gondolas to light rails to new affordable housing communities, that the New York City borough has proposed as ways to help stimulate the post-pandemic economy.
July 22, 2021 • (TNS) From aerial gondolas and light rails, to the development of new affordable housing communities, Staten Islanders have some big ideas to help fuel New York City s ongoing recovery from the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Earlier this month, some of the borough s business leaders and top educators contributed to a new report from the Center for an Urban Future titled, 250 Ideas from New Yorkers to Revive NYC s Economy, Spark Good Jobs, and Build a More Equitable City, urging policy makers to consider recovery plans from some of the city s most knowledgable residents.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. Staten Island has seen its share of the small screen over the years even if you didn’t always know it.
Many TV and streaming shows have used the borough as a backdrop. While some have referenced Staten Island, others have transformed the Island into unrecognizable spots.
All that said, here are 28 shows you may not know were filmed on Staten Island.
Around 2008, The CW’s
“Gossip Girl” took over the St. George Theatre and a major part of Hyatt Street for filming purposes. According to those who recall the shoot, production crew spent two days taking down the theater’s elaborate Christmas tree and other holiday decorations in December 2008.

All eyes are on Midtown Manhattan as everyone anxiously waits to see if and when office workers and tourists will return to what have been eerily empty streets and whether the businesses that line them will regain customers lost during the pandemic.
But other retail corridors across New York are also important barometers of the city’s economy, as well as key to its recovery; a survey of five of them, one in each borough, showed signs of resilience.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. Community Board 2 will hold a land use public hearing on Tuesday, April 6, to address the removal of trees on vacant land in Emerson Hill.
At issue is the removal of five trees to accommodate the construction of a two-story, detached single-family residence at 214 and 262 Shields Place.
