2006 Galt murder case finally ends with conviction


It may have taken 15 years, but justice was finally served last Friday in a Sacramento County court, when Javier Montanez Jr. was convicted of the 2006 second-degree murder of Galt teen Clinton Poole. Convicted by a jury, Montanez was also found guilty of the special allegation that he personally used a knife in the commission of the murder.
Montanez fled the country shortly after the 2006 fatal incident, stymieing police efforts to bring closure to the open case.
According to a Monday morning Sacramento County District Attorney press release, Montanez fled to Mexico and remained a fugitive until 2018 when U.S. authorities were notified that he had been located in Mexico. Montanez was then extradited in 2019 to face homicide charges in Sacramento County. ....

The owner of Casa Mexicana in Lodi, Job Sanchez, died after battling the coronavirus. More than $30,000 has been raised for his family.

LODI, Calif. After more than a month of battling coronavirus, Job Sanchez, a father, husband, and the owner of Casa Mexicana in Lodi passed away on Thursday. He was 52 years old. 
His daughter, Janelie Sanchez said losing her dad has been a shock.  
He FaceTimed us and he had no machines, no nothing he was just talking to us normally, Janelie told ABC10. That gave me a lot of hope. I was like, OK, maybe he is going to recover and it s not going to take as long. But then two days after that, he went back on the ventilator and he got really worse.   ....

Seven firefighters from Manteca and Lathrop are currently helping with the COVID-19 pandemic that is battering Southern California – using their EMT skills to supplement staffing levels at hospitals inundated with patients.
And more may be on the way soon.
This week the City of Manteca sent four firefighters to the Los Angeles area as part of the California Fire Assistance Agreement. It is the same mechanism that sends firefighters to help battle the extensive wildland blazes that have pummeled the forests and foothills over the last several years. ....

The first round of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine continues to roll out in San Joaquin County.
On Wednesday, the vaccine was administered to eligible members of the staff at Doctors Hospital of Manteca in accordance with Food & Drug Administration, Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, state and local guidelines.
On Thursday, vaccines were administered to staff at San Joaquin General Hospital in French Camp and Kaiser Permanente in Manteca.
Sandra Heinze was Kaiser Permanente s first employee to receive the vaccine in the Central Valley, according to a company spokesperson. As staff watched, Heinze, a registered ICU nurse at Kaiser Permanente in Manteca, said it didn t hurt a bit and that she didn t hesitate to take the shot. ....
