A community reference group has been established to help inform council on this signature project, and I am pleased to be a member of this group along with Deputy Mayor Councillor Karen May as Chair, Cr Belinda Hassan and other council staff. A concept master plan has been prepared to help guide staged development of the site and various building concepts for Stage 1 are being discussed with the Community Reference Group. Wider public consultation is expected to follow.

The Mackay Region Integrated Transport Strategy outlines actions to be taken immediately, those over the next five years and long-term actions covering the period 2025 to 2036. âAs a multi-modal strategy, MRITS considers the current and future role of the more traditional transport modes such as planes, trains, (cars), boats, pedestrians and bikes as well as those that are emerging and are perhaps a little less well-known such as rideshare and personal mobility devices, for example e-scooters,â the draft strategy posted to Mackay Regional Councilâs website stated. ....

The 31.8km âHabana Loopâ covers a section of the Bruce Highway at North Mackay as well as Mackay-Habana Road, Farleigh-Habana Road, Sugarshed Road and Heaths Road. Habana resident Wendy Lindsay said she got a âfrightâ after a close call with a cyclist, only stopping her vehicle in the nick of time when she saw the riderâs small single light in the corner of her eye. Habana and District Progress Association president Palmina Rae said while the community knew it could not change the roads being part of the designated training circuit, it wanted them improved for both driversâ and cyclistsâ safety. ....
