Dancing at Nightcliff for years to come

Date Time Dancing at Nightcliff for years to come An iconic remnant of the old Seabreeze Hotel at Nightcliff has been given a facelift by City of Darwin. Constructed in 1947, the Seabreeze Hotel at Nightcliff was destroyed by Cyclone Tracey in 1974 and was never rebuilt. The only thing that remained was a concrete floor that was used by local dance groups and individuals for open air dancing. The concrete floor was old, uneven and cracked, making it unsafe for people to dance on. Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said: “People have been dancing on this concrete space in Nightcliff for many years and it has become very dangerous for the dancers who were at risk of hurting themselves.

Mackay venue shares in $2.5m of live music grants

Premium Content Subscriber only A Mackay region hotel has scored a share in $2.5m of grants to reactive live music across Australian pubs, clubs and theatres. HFG Hotels received $41,154 in round two of the $20m Live Music Australia Program towards its Seabreeze Hotel at 72 Pacific Esplanade, Slade Point. The grant was one of 83 awarded across the nation to support live music programming at more than 100 venues. A statement from Cities and the Arts Minister Paul Fletcher said it would develop the hotel into an “independent, original band venue supporting local artists and national touring acts”. Seabreeze Hotel, opposite Lamberts Beach, has a dedicated outdoor stage for live music. Picture: File
