27 steps for Mackay's future by road, rail, sea and air


A 27-step action plan has been devised to cater for Mackay’s growing population and transport needs by road, rail, sea and air.
The Mackay Region Integrated Transport Strategy outlines actions to be taken immediately, those over the next five years and long-term actions covering the period 2025 to 2036.
“As a multi-modal strategy, MRITS considers the current and future role of the more traditional transport modes such as planes, trains, (cars), boats, pedestrians and bikes as well as those that are emerging and are perhaps a little less well-known such as rideshare and personal mobility devices, for example e-scooters,” the draft strategy posted to Mackay Regional Council’s website stated. ....

WHEN borders were slammed shut, all eyes were on the industry that props up many people across the Whitsundays and Mackay.
The tourism sector was left reeling with lockdowns and travel bans in what was a make or break situation.
