Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has admitted that the raw data on COVID-19 told a worrying story.” 
In an address to the nation January 18, the Prime Minister said that between March and December 2020, St Vincent and the Grenadines recorded 110 positive PCR test results.
However, between December 28, 2020 and January 17, 2021 the number jumped to 384, with the majority of new cases among locals who had not recently travelled,  and worse, the recording of its first COVID-19 attributed deaths, two. ....

No curfew, no lockdown, PM declares
Instead of having ‘draconian’ measures like curfews imposed upon them, residents have been urged to adhere to the existing regulations.

Government does not intend to impose any State of Emergency (SoE)  or curfew measures, far less a national lockdown at this point, despite the recent spike in COVID-19 cases in the country particularly among those locals without any recent history of travel.
Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves made the point crystal clear on January 18 during an address to the nation. 
Instead of ‘those draconian measures’, Dr. Gonsalves said the government had taken the decision to tighten and manage more closely the existing restrictions and regulations, and where it was deemed necessary and desirable, to ramp up the restrictions and controls further.  ....

Persons requiring exit screening as it relates to COVID-19 can now access this service at private laboratories.
This, as the Ministry of Health moved to outsource testing to private laboratories, in light of the surge in the number of samples coming into the government’s molecular testing facility, where PCR tests are conducted. 
Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves, in his address to the nation on January 18, said that private sector labs are being approached to handle exit screenings, and that those persons requiring the labs’ service will be required to pay a fee.  ....

There is the need for St Vincent and the Grenadines to build its own capacity in terms of being able to deal with studying and monitoring La Soufriere volcano.
According to Dr Ralph Gonsalves, Prime Minister, while speaking on radio on January 17, there were a number of agencies that provided services to SVG, some of which the public were not aware.
Those among the list include the Caribbean Meteorology and Hydrology Institute and The UWI Seismic Research Centre (SRC) which is currently in country providing vital services. ....
