Persons residing in the areas near the La Soufriere volcano are being told to begin planning in the event an order to evacuate is executed.
We are encouraging persons to start making arrangements, we are not alarming anyone,” Michele Forbes, Director of the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) said on January 3 on radio.
The affected areas include Georgetown northwards to Fancy on the East, and the area from Belle Isle to Chateaubelair on the West. ....

With the recent spike in COVID-19 cases here, and the continuing patronage of bars and similar establishments, not to mention mass indoor and outdoor gatherings, owners and promoters of such operations and events are being encouraged to register patrons.
Chief Medical Office (CMO) Dr Simone Keizer-Beache said that this was in keeping with the protocols guiding mass gatherings.
On Thursday, December 31 the Commissioner of Police Colin John, through a public statement, said that he had taken the decision to ban the use of all amplified music. This action, he said, was based on the advice of the Ministry of Health and follows what appears to be a number of community spread cases of Covid-19 here. ....

Minister of Health Jimmy Prince, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Simone Keizer-Beache, Permanent Secretary/Ministry of Health Cuthbert Knights and two members of the administrative staff of that Ministry have, out of an abundance of caution,’ entered self-quarantine.
The officials have been advised to self-quarantine after a relative of a member of staff of the Ministry of Health tested positive for COVID-19.
And on Wednesday it was reported that the High Command of the Royal SVG Police Force, including Commissioner of Police Colin John, had entered self-quarantine, this after Deputy Commissioner of Police Frankie Joseph had tested positive for COVIB-19. ....

Last Tuesday, 29th December, Vincentians awoke to indications, albeit all unconfirmed, that the La Soufriere volcano was erupting.
Some citizens took to giving their versions by posting photographs and videos on social media, while many more bombarded the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) with telephone calls requesting explanation.
Towards this end, Prime Minister Dr. Hon. Ralph Gonsalves convened a press conference, Tuesday, December 29, and invited University of the West Indies experts - Professor Richard Robertson, Professor of Geology and Dr. Eurouscilla Joseph, Director of the Seismic Research Centre (SRC) The UWI St. Augustine Campus, Trinidad and Tobago, to lead the conference via Zoom. ....
