Susan Waring, 45, was trapped inside her first-floor flat in Redburn when it was set alight in 2017. Critically ill, she spent nine days in a coma before she returned home to Lancashire to be closer to family. However, in January 2019, the mum-of-five went missing. She was last seen shopping with Alan Edwards in Darwen, Lancashire, on January 29. Last month, Edwards was sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty of Ms Waring’s murder.

A FUNDRAISER has been launched in a bid to erect a memorial for a murdered woman whose body has never been found. In April, Alan Edwards was sentenced to life in prison for murdering Darwen woman Susan Waring, who was last seen in January 2019. At an 11-week trial at Preston Crown Court, it was heard how violent bully Edwards had murdered the 45-year-old and then disposed of her body – along with his committal of a host of other crimes against several other women. Edwards has never revealed the location of Miss Waring’s remains, leaving her family and friends devoid of closure – which they hope to find in a memorial.

Spring is a time for new beginnings and that couldn’t be truer for Bristol’s Linden Place Mansion. At the onset of the pandemic, the museum closed its doors but, during that time, the team of historians and curators were hard at work. “Linden Place has spent the last twelve months of the COVID-19 pandemic working on a complete reinterpretation of Linden Place’s tour and story,” says Susan Battle, executive director at Linden Place. “In doing that, we have redesigned rooms in the 1810 mansion, giving them a whole new look and feel that we are excited to unveil and share as part of our opening weekend, ‘Art Blooming at Linden Place’ show. This extra-special reopening will feature flower arrangements and original art inspired by the mansion’s beauty and history all created by local artists.
