Longing for some live entertainment

Article content It’s been such a long time since I attended a live performance that I can’t remember the last time I was in an audience taking in some form of theatrical and/or musical entertainment. It might have been a Christmas performance of Carrie Beauchamp’s Nightingale Chorus. Maybe it was a concert at a popular Ottawa nightclub featuring the brother of my friend. Or it could have been the time when my family and I travelled to Disneyworld to celebrate my brother’s 50 th birthday and were forced to go on the ‘It’s a Small World After All’ ride. There were very creepy robot-children singing the same chorus over and over again, an image I will hold until I depart from this world.

Denley: New Civic hospital campus will be a huge step forward

Article content After 14 years of planning and pondering, the Ottawa Hospital’s new Civic campus is finally moving closer to reality. Well, OK, it’s still an estimated seven years from completion, but the long overdue update the hospital released Tuesday still marks a rapid acceleration from the languid pace of the past. It wasn’t entirely apparent from CEO Cameron Love’s presentation, but the past year has contained almost all of the meaningful progress the hospital has made on its expansion plan. Just a year ago, it had a rough drawing of a building that looked like a doughnut with two bites out of it. Love calls that version “very much a preliminary concept.”
