that's the tiniest, the job growth by wages between 2009 and 2013. the green is what we'd like to see be a big slice of the pie, because that's the sectors of the economy that pay above average wages. has exploded and the red has shrunk. and the yellow has stayed about the same. >> what's happening, we looked the more recent trend, it's showing improvement and adding manufacturing jobs and more of couple of years has been in higher wage sectors of the economy. >> let's go over the first pie chart here, let's see the difference, the red is huge, the green is very small and let's go to the updated one, 2014 to 2016, the red has shrunk dramatically, the green has dramatically, and the yellow is about the same. going up. >> there are two reasons, part of it we're having more job growth in the sectors of the economy that pays above average. >> finance, construction, those sectors of the economy are losing manufacturing jobs before. >> the below average wages are in retail and food service accommodation. >> good service and they're coming back? >> yeah, the main difference is, we're getting good job growth and manufacturing for the first time in a long time. >> let's go to the graphic. new hampshire and manufacturing, all of these pie charts are new hampshire. 2007 on the left and 2015 on the right. look what happened from 2007 all the way through up to 2014, where you see a little bit of increase and now in 2015, new hampshire manufacturing employment is started up again. 68,000 about, when it was 78,000 back in 2007. what's driving that? >> well, i think it's-- part of it's what's called insourcing. we've had outsourcing over the years to asia and china. >> right. >> some of those are moving back into the united states and more of the firms in new hampshire and america are seeing benefits to really add employment and expand manufacturing capacity here in the states. that's a good sign. it's important to remember for a lot of people struggling in terms of wages and job growth. >> i was going to ask you that. >> that's just the beginning right now. . >> there's the underemployed those working part-time and they were working full-time before. and those in the jobs less qualifications. >> we don't see them. they're over 3%, if you add in those working part-time, but rather have a full-time job, it just about doubles. yeah, there's little a lot of underemployment and we're just seeing-- beginning to see wage growth and it's because the unemployment rate is low and employers are having to pay more to get people into the shop. >> and to keep the ones they got. >> 2016, one to ten, one being lowest, 10 the best. where is the economy floating? >> i think a seven. it's going to be another good year. barring any national disruptions or international disruptions, we're on a pretty even keel now and that's a good thing. >> russ thibeault. if you missed part of this go to come come, lick on news and click on project economy. >> now, either your elevation, if your a shielded by the mountains or valley and it will play a huge factor in your temperatures this morning. the wind not that strong, but just enough to make it feel a little cooler as you head out this morning. the breeze will calm a little bit today. but still a bit of a breeze, not nearly what we saw yesterday for wind. the clouds in the mountains slowly are going to be dissipating through the morning hours, still being caused by that breeze out of the northwest as that wind shifts to the west and then the southwest as clouds should loosen up. much of the nation is clear, from about the midway point on westward. there's almost nothing going on. southeastern parts of the united states seeing the most rain, and through yesterday giving us the clouds pushed away allowing the cooler air in and sunnier skies. now, this system redevelops over the coast and does make a run at us, around mid week. that's what we have to watch here and yesterday, if you the same. >> that's right, what's happening, if you look more recent trend is we're starting to show some improvement. adding manufacturing jobs and more of our job growth over the last couple of years has been in higher wage sectors of the economy. >> let's go back to the first pie chart again. look at the difference here and see the red is huge and the green is very small and let's go to the updated one, 2014, to 2016. the red has shrunk dramatically and green grown dramatically and the yellow about average wages is about the same. so, that is significant. wages are going up. >> and there's two reasons, really, part of it is that we're having more job growth in the sectors of the economy that pays above average insurance. >> finance. >> finance, manufacturing, construction, those sectors of the economy are growing now, whereas we were losing manufacturing jobs before. >> and the below average wages are in retail and food service-- >> transportation. >> accommodation. >> food service and they're coming back? >> yeah, the main difference is, we're getting good job growth and manufacturing for the first time in a long time. >> let's go to that graphic and here it is. new hampshire manufacturing, all of those pie charts are manufacturing. 2007 on the left and 2015 on the right. look what happened from 2007 all the way through up to 2014 where you see a little bit of increase and now, in 2015, new hampshire manufacturing employment is started up again. and 68,000 about, when it was 78,000 back in 2007. what's driving that? >> well, i think it's-- well, part of it's what's called insourcing. we've had a lot of outsourcing china. now, some of those are moving back into the united states. and more of the firms in new hampshire and in america are seeing benefits to really add employment and expand manufacturing capacity here in the states. so, that's a very good sign, but it's important to remember, for a lot of people, they're still struggling in terms of wages and job growth. it's just the beginning right now. >> there's the underemployed, those working part-time when they were working full-time before and those are numbers that we don't see very often. >> we don't see them often. the current unemployment working part-time and they'd rather have a full-time job. it just about doubles. we're just beginning to see wage growth and it's because the unemployment rate is low and employers are having to pay more stop. >> and to keep the ones they've got. >> right. >> keep the ones they've got. quick, 2016, one being the lowest ten the best, where is the new hampshire economy going to be floating? >> i think about a seven. >> about a seven. >> it's going to be another good year, barring any national disruptions or international disruptions, we're on a pretty even keel now and that's a good thing. >> russ debow, thank you. >> thank you. >> if you missed part of this interview, go to wmur.com, click on news and click on
