thanks for waking up with us. i'm erin fehlau. good morning. sean: i'm sean mcdonald. temperatures are still really warm out there. a tale of two days. monday we started with clouds. temperatures held in the 50's and 60's and today, we start with clouds and a stray shower but likely go back to sunshine this afternoon. that should push temperatures up. in the day. low temperatures tonight will be back into the 30's and 40's. but we will get into the 70's with increasing sunshine. let's take a look at your morning ride. >> good morning. right now, making your way through the state, looking good. no delays from north down to the your way to the turnpike, no problems getting through the polls and making array into nashua. all major roads are up to speed. i am 95.7 wzid's deb davidson. sean: more than a dozen dogs are safe this morning after they were rescued from what police call disgusting conditions inside a home in pelham. erin: but another 15 dogs are still unaccounted for right now. wmur's ray brewer is live in pelham this morning to explain. >> police say kevin rocheville was fostering several dogs and puppies at his home but that the conditions inside were horrible. more than two weeks ago an animal control officer found a dog loose on jonathan road and determined that it was rocheville's. police say several of his dogs other towns in the area. officers were able to get a search warrant and yesterday seized 18 pit bull and rottweiler mixes including several puppies from the home. >> there was a very strong smell of ammonia, strong smell of urine. there was dog feces everywhere, to include on top of the dvd player. >> to the best of my knowledge, he's been fostering dogs and helping out with dogs that were going to be euthanized. i never knew the quantity that was over there. receiving care at a local vet. police say it's likely that rocheville will face animal cruelty charges. and 15 dogs are still missing. if you spot a stray please contact your local animal control officer. reporting live in pelham, ray brewer, wmur news 9. erin: we are now less than 3 weeks until the elections and tonight, donald trump and debate stage for a third and final time. both candidates are looking to make a final push, while also adressing recent scandals. abc's stephanie ramos is in washington this morning with a preview of tonight's debate. >> hillary clinton touching down in las vegas. for a final one on one match up against donald trump. >> how's debate prep? if whenever things are going badly for you and you lose you start blaming someone else then you don't have what it takes to be in this job. >> after tonight's debate, that he'll win one of the greatest victories in political history. erin: you can watch the final presidential debate tonight at 9:00 right here on wmur or go to our website or mobile app. former red sox pitcher curt schilling says he wants to run for u.s. senate in 2018 hoping to challenge senator elizabeth warren but added that he will only do it if his wife approves in the past schilling has also expressed interest in a presidential campaign. he was in salem yesterday campaigning for donald trump while also proti political future. and he says eyes are always on the granite state. >> new hampshire is the bellwether. every election, no matter how big a state is, new hampshire sets the tone. erin: schilling was fired from his job as an espn baseball analyst earlier this year, after he posted comments on facebook that were critical of transgender rights. sean: a new hampshire man is due in court this morning in massachusetts accused of stealing more than $350,000. 25-year-old michael shields junior faces a total of 45 counts out of suffolk county including credit card fraud. investigators say he opened more than a dozen credit cards in five women's names and then used the cards to go on vacation, buy clothes, jewelry, and meals. officials say he met most of his victims through social media and got personal information by promising to take care of them financially. police in hartford, vermont just across the river from lebanon want to know who vandalized a elementary school in town. sometime late monday or early tuesday someone spraypainted the words "americans for trump" on the side of the building, but the c in americans was replaced manchester will soon become a one way street with traffic headed west. alderman approved the plan last night. the goal is to reduce traffic through residential neighbors around the new walmart. the store opened on gold street back in april creating new traffic concerns. gates didn't solve all the problems but now several businesses are unhappy saying the one way street will limit traffic for them. at least one business is threatening legal action. another is threatening to move. >> it is stupidity. >> will find another place to move. it's going to hurt us and it's going to hurt them to. erin: hannaford supermarket already filed an official complaint. the mayor has promised to study the traffic problem more to find a permanent solution. it is not clear when president road will turn one way. sean: still to come layoffs are , coming at dartmouth hitchcock medical center but the hospital says there is at least one key department that will not be not? maine is cracking down and trying to skirt the law could cost you. sean: and in the next half hour another community is cracking down on water use and local officials don't expect the drought to end anytime soon. drought to end anytime soon. it's a new hampshire success story. thousands of working adults earning a college degree to further their careers. i'm colin van ostern, and i helped launch college for america at southern new hampshire university. we've partnered with over 100 employers so their workers can get an associate's or bachelor's degree... most debt-free. as governor, i'll grow the economy by cutting college costs for students and families. a stronger workforce helps our businesses grow, too. kevin: early clouds with patchy kevin: early clouds with patchy frog. frog. cooler air weights and eventually, rain chances come with it. erin: the ceo of dartmouth hichcock medical center says new layoffs will not include any employees providing psychiatric services. sean: the hospital announced 84 "across the system layoffs" on monday, but that sparked concerns at the state hospital where dartmouth hitchcock is set to take over operations. reponded yesterday, saying across the system was meant in a regional sense. the long-time superintendent for the londonderry school district says he will retire at the end of the school year. nathan greenberg joined the district in 2000. in a letter to the school board, greenberg says he will miss the tight-knit district and its passion for learning and growth. assistant superien top position. the board says that will mean a smooth transition and it saves on the costs of a formal search. sean: the state of maine is cracking down on people who try to pass their pets off as service animals. under a new law, those who are caught could face a $1000 fine. service animals are defined as being trained to do specific tasks, like pulling a wheelchair or guiding people who are visually impaired. there is another category in maine called assistance animals which provide comfort and support to people with physical erin: coming up, a new treat is coming soon from m&m. we'll tell you about the caramel option. sean: college is expensive, but a new report suggests that the burden on students is especially sean: students graduating from college in new hampshire have the highest debt in the country. according to a new report from the institue of college access undergrad in the u.s. graduates with just over $30,000 in debt but here in new hampshire that number jumps to about $36,100. and more than 75% of students graduate owing money, which is also the highest in the country. fiat chrysler is recalling more than 86,000 pickup trucks and police cars, because a short circuit in the alternator could cause the engine to stall or catch fire. the recall includes certain fires have already been reported and one injury as a result of the issue. erin: the final 12 acres of the rockingham park in salem have been sold, clearing the way for a new development known as "the tuscan village." restauranteur and real estate developer, joe faro, just closed on the final piece of land. the property that hosted 100 years of thoroughbred and harness racing will soon be part of a brand new mixed use development. clicks the vision is a mixed-use center that embodies a downtown center. very community centric and pedestrian friendly. entertainment, restaurants, hotels. as the ability to have these gathering spaces for the community to come in and celebrate the holidays. we do all kinds of holidays here at the tuscan village and we tuscan village is scheduled for 2017. cranmore mountain is showing off its new, more efficient and environmentally friendly snow groomer. the groomer uses a diesel electric engine, reducing both emissions and fuel consumption by 20%. cranmore is one of the first resorts in the east to use this equipment. sean: you just need a little snow for that, right? the flow is out of the northeast. keeping clouds locked in, today, we have early clouds or a stray shower that it eventually gives way to sunshine. very much like what we had monday. there is cooler air behind that and we get a taste later this evening. upper 30's up north and 40's you can see the proverbial running start we will have out there. elsewhere, 60's this morning. we do have a west and southwest wind after the front moves through. the marine air stays locked in place. we have one more day in the west wind but then here highs tomorrow in the upper 50's and lower 60's. today, it will be warm. temperatures in the 70's, statewide. a couple of locations will have sunshine and we could to about near 80 degrees. i believe the record high is 80 degrees. so 70's begin to fade later in the afternoon at the colder air begins to come in. sunshine tomorrow gives way to clouds. we will have stray showers in the afternoon but nothing heavy or organized. scattered showers will be possible thursday evening and even friday but the front approaching tries to link up with moisture in the ocean and you will notice rainfall will be developing later in the day friday and friday evening. it looks like the entire system will lift north of us over the weekend and then rain will come in here. way through the weekend with a cold wind to go with it. temperatures today giving way quickly. 70's this afternoon. back into the 40's tonight. we will have a sickening of cloud cover. the breeze does start to kick in early saturday as the system pulls away. you'll notice highs into the 50's over the weekend. that will meet up with a wind the first snowflakes of the season. sean: snow our way? all right. erin: let's check our top stories. here's ray brewer. >> pelham police rescue more than a dozen dogs from a home in a town. they say conditions inside were deplorable. the man was fostering the dogs at his home. officers got a search and seized 18 pimples and rottweiler mix is. police say there was a strong smell of ammonia. and there were dog feces everywhere. one dog did have to be put down. the others are receiving care at a local vet. erin: the board of alderman has approved a plan every day at more treatment. but the plan is to release her back to the wild in time for her to give birth there. so that in florida where it is much warmer. erin: wildlife officials in new zealand managed to save the life of a baby kiwi bird thanks to some masking tape. sean: they found an egg severely cracked and damaged but it was still nearly two weeks before the chick would be ready to hatch. so officials found some pieces of old shells and taped them on. the fix worked. the kiwi hatched on time and is healthy with no apparent effects. a baby kiwi right there, ready to go. thanks to masking tape. erin: coming up in the next half hour, winter is right around the corner and local firefighters need you help to make sure kids kathy: it goes by so fast. kate: one day you're a kid - sean: it really warm today. let's get right to our top stories. eighteen dogs and puppiesare safe this morning after being rescued from a home in pelham. now police are trying to track down fifteen other dogs that are missing. a candia woman accused of setting off an armed standoff while a child was inside the home is scheduled to be arraigned today. and the city of claremont is the latest community to ask its residents to avoid any outdoor erin: so we are in for warmer weather? kevin: we have seen the tale of two days. it warmed up yesterday with the clouds locked in. today, we give way to a westerly wind and we may have patchy fog early. in a lot of locations, we have normal highs for this time of year. that means we jump with increasing sunshine. we start to gradually cool off. erin: and you said there is snow in the forecast for at least one area in the state. kevin: i think that area, people can guess where it is. erin: we want to check the roads here. sean: we do have a erin: more than a dozen dogs are safe this morning after being rescued from what police are calling disgusting conditions. sean: the 18 dogs, including eight puppies, were rescued from a home in pelham yesterday. police say a man was fostering the animals and now fifteen other dogs are missing. ray brewer joins us live in pelham now, to tell us what authorities believe may have happened to those dogs. good morning, ray. ray: police believe those missing animals may be on the loose. have turned up as strays in surrounding towns. these are some of the 18 dogs taken from a pelham home tuesday. police say they were living in deplorable conditions. more than two weeks ago the animal control officer found a loose dog on jonathan road in pelham. police say it was kevin rocheville's and that he was fostering several dogs and puppies. last week, police say five of his dogs turned up abandoned in hudson. >> two of those dogs needed to go to the vet immediately and one had to be put down. ray: after getting a search warrant, investigators returned to rocheville's home. >> there was a very strong smell of ammonia, strong smell of urine. there was dog feces everywhere, to include on top of the dvd player. ray: the dogs seized are mostly pit bulls or pit bull mixes, plus 8 rottweiler mix puppies. police say this bathroom door was torn apart by trapped dogs that were trying to get out. they say 15 more dogs are still >> to the best of my knowledge, he has been fostering dogs and helping out with dogs that would be euthanized. i never knew the quantity that was over there. they weren't running around. they weren't loose. they weren't bothering anybody. but that's a lot animals to have in someplace that's not an animal-control environment. ray: police say rocheville will likely face animal cruelty charges. meantime, they are asking for dogs. if you spot one, primarily a pit bull or pit bull mix, you are asked to get in touch with the pelham police department. reporting live, ray brewer, wmur news 9. erin: new on daybreak. rochester police nabbed a robbery suspect just minutes after the crime took place. police say 24-year-old eric schoellkopf held up the dunkin donuts on south main street around 10:00 last night. no weapon was shown and no one was hurt. he is scheduled to face a judge today. sean: another new hampshire community is taking steps to save water due to the ongoing drought. claremont is now asking people to avoid any outdoor water use. the voluntary restrictions come as nearby rivers fall to low water levels. the city gets about 30% of its water from the sugar river. >> no washing cars, lawns is a of 30 gallons more per person per day in the summertime, watering lawns. we can expect the draft to prolong until at least january 1. sean: again, these restrictions are voluntary for now. but claremont is considering making them mandatory. erin: a woman accused of holding police at bay during an armed standoff in candia is scheduled to face a judge today. police say it all started yesterday morning, when they received a call for a distraught when they got to the scene, they learned a 12-year-old girl was also inside. soon after, they heard a gunshot and then saw the child run from the house. a second shot went off and a swat team was called in. negotiators were able to convince the suspect, 45-year-old deborah delongchamps, to surrender without incident. she is set to be arraigned today on charges including false imprisonment and endangering the welfare of a child. sean: a man from weare is also due in court today, after he allegedly used a computer to try to meet up with an underag 38-year-old donald malette is charged with "certain uses of computer services prohibited" and falsifying evidence. police say an undercover federal agent saw a craigslist ad that mallette allegedly posted, looking for a mother and daughter to have an "experience" with. turning now to commitment 2016 erin: news. donald trump's running mate, mike pence, is returning to the granite state on friday. full details about pence's campaign stops have not yet been released. meantime, we are also learning that massachusetts senator elizabeth warren will campaign with hillary clinton here in new hampshire next week. the two will be making stops together on monday. there is no word yet on which communities they plan to visit. sean: with the general election now less than 3 weeks away, both presidential candidates are gearing up for their final debate tonight. there is a lot at stake as donald trump and hillary clinton go head-to-head. nikole washington is in preview. >> both candidates go into this debate facing questions -- trump on his sexual assualt allegations, clinton on her campaign's hacked emails -- so tonight, it's all about making their closing arguments before a major audience. one more debate night in america. >> let's face it, there are at least tens of millions of americans who through this morning. temperatures, one last day into the 70's but from there, cooler air wins out. shower chances to end the week. sean: a man is back with his family this morning after he disappeared while swimming off the coast of massachusetts. erin: the man was lost at sea for several hours. authorities say he and his son-in-law were swimming in ipswich yesterda ipswich police quickly located the son-in-law who told them they got caught in heavy fog and were swept away by a rip current. a coast guard helicopter eventually spotted the missing swimmer in the water and hoisted him to safety. sean: it is lucky he had the wetsuit on. a teenager is now on the state of massachusetts' most wanted list. 16-year-old jayden smith is wanted for the murder of 29-year-old jerrod cohen in fall river this past summer. state police say smith and another 16-year-old joel lopez considered armed and dangerous. erin: firefighters in colorado are battling a wildfire that has already destroyed five homes. the sheriff's department says the fire started when high winds blew a metal outbuilding into a power line. in addition to the homes, 13 out-buildings have also been destroyed. as of last night the fire was still uncontained. sean: a close call for a pol check out his cruiser. police say the officer smelled smoke and was getting out of his patrol car when the trunk suddenly exploded. the cruiser had a small oxygen tank in the trunk, but it's not yet clear if that's what caused the blast. the officer was not seriously hurt. erin: facebook has launched a new feature ahead of the presidential election. you can now offer an endorsement for any political official or candidate on facebook. you can post your endorsement on a user's profile page, and even add an explanation about why a recent poll of more than 1000 people revealed that about 30% of adults online have been harassed for expressing their political opinions. sean: let's talk sports. the alcs is now going to game 5 after the blue jays finally got a win against the indians last night. it was do or die for the blue jays, and they did. in the bottom of the third, josh donaldson crushed a curveball to left field for a solo homer. innings that the indians trailed in a game. cleveland scored a run in the fifth and wanted more but donaldson had a terrific diving play at third base to end the inning. toronto went on to win it, 5-1. game 5 gets underway at 4:00 this afternoon in toronto. erin: a fun change to the chad east-west all-star football game. they are going to tee it up on a friday night next year. june 30 at saint anselm college. for the first time. former central great jim schubert will coach team west. laconia head coach craig kozens will coach team east. in 5 years, the game has raised $1.3 million for the childrens hospital at dartmouth. sean: patriots fans are used to coach bill belichick being grumpy, testy, short. and generally not friendly. but yesterday, he showed a and his family. erin: looking to get a makeover? a new robot could soon help you out with that. the smart make-up technology, developed by panasonic, uses a contactless sensor to detect spots on a person's skin. it then prints a customized cosmetic sheet that can be applied to the person's face. right now the technology is still under development. aaron -- sean: government and airline industry officials are working on ala will never get tired, distracted or stressed out. the program's leaders say they are envisioning a day when planes and helicopters will fly people and cargo without any human pilot on board. erin: what do the pilots have to say about this one? will unfold much like monday with clouds lingering around. clouds return tomorrow. temperatures over the weekend. we could see a few snowflakes this weekend. notice a few sprinkles left over. this is on the move this morning. and a big difference from yesterday which had a wind out of the northeast, reinforcing the cooler air. today's wind is out of the northwest. we'll set up a bright and warm we start off this morning on the warm side. anywhere from the upper 50's to mid 60's. in a few spots, it is rain cool. but at a bare minimum, mid 50's this morning. it won't take much to get out into the 70's. the wind should be out of the west by the afternoon. at times, 20 miles per hour. we will drop temperatures back into the mid-30's and upper 40's later tonight. it looks like we will start the day tomorrow with a little bit of sunshine but it will fade by lunchtime and into the afternoon. thursday evening, scattered showers and friday evening, times of rainfall will become north, cooler air will wrap in. highs mainly in the 50's. and this will all come with a northwest wind. so a rather cool weekend out there. temperatures up into the 70's statewide. any early clouds will give way to partial sunshine. partly cloudy skies into the 40's in the southern half of the state. we may have some valley fog. 60's the next couple of days. tomorrow, a couple of showers in the afternoon. times of rainfall but not a total washout on friday. we have a couple of drier house in their -- drier hours in there. and the wind will be cooling areas of the state, they have the chance of some snowflakes saturday night or early sunday. erin: interesting. kevin: getting to that time of year. erin: the manchester fire department is hoping to get 600 much-needed coats to young children this winter. the department has participated in the operation warm coat-drive for the last two years. they work with elementary schools and other youth programs to distribute the coats. >> we love doing it. we've been able to network with the united way and with the manchester school department. the manchester health department. they put us in touch with children in need and we get to do good in the community. >> our students are so appreciative. we have lots of hard-working families who just need the extra. they can't always get the new coat so they really appreciate it. erin: if you would to make a donation you can drop off coats sean: a local florist is taking part in a nationwide event today that's meant to encourage random acts of kindness. it's called "petal it forward." florists across the country will randomly surprise people on the streets by giving them flowers. this year lady slipper creations in chester is taking part. ten volunteers will be handing out 1000 roses. the
