Reporter from a wheelchaired Community Regional medical center, he told us how he built a makeshift splint, using a trekking pole. And dragged himself to safer plains. I used my left hands to maneuver over rocks the first four days. And to get down to the lake, i splinted i left the splint on my leg. Reporter hein ate crickets to survive and drank any water he could find. The search and rescue teams were searching for the hiker the entire time. Eventually they spotted him in pain, hungry and grateful. They flew almost directly over me and didnt see me. When they did see me, i kind of grabbed my foot and laid down on my back for a while. Just breathed a deep sigh of relief. Reporter he plans to keep hiking as soon as he heals. But added hell be better prepared in the future. I happened to be out and about and moving around again. This is a fragile ceasefire to allow for civilians to seek humanitarian aid. This is following air strikes targeting homes of suspected hamas leaders in gaza. And its launched an investigation into the death of four palestinian boys that were killed in a naval strike. That happened just yards from abcs alex marquardt. Reporter a deafening blast. Israeli air strike. Just 1,000 yards from our hotel. On the beach, a group of boys that had been playing. Running away in terror. You see them fleeing in this video. Then, another strike. The boys are hit. At the scene, we found chaos. Here, here, shouts one man. Theres a severely mangled body of a dead boy, put on to the stretcher by this paramedic. Four boys were killed, two brothers and two cousins, between 9 and 11 years old. Their parents, in anguished disbelief, as they were laid to rest. President obama addressed the conflict. Weve all been heartbroken by the violence, especially the deaths of innocent civilians in gaza. Men,omen and children caught in the crossfire. Wildfires in Eastern Washington state are threatening h hundreds of homes this morning. Theres a state of emergency in 20 counties as weather conditions are perfect for wildfires. Hundreds of people are urged to evacuate. The largest of the fires is 30 contained. Another fire thats close to a highway that residents may need for evacuations. A brush fire north of reno, nevada, practically doubled in size in just a few hours. Look at those pictures. This fire is on u. S. Forest service land. No homes are threatened there. About 20 contained, thanks to the use of air tankers and helicopters and the efforts of dozens of firefighters on the ground. The soggy east coast is finally getting a chance to dry out today after days of flooding downpours. The floods have pushed through the streets of colorado springs, after monsoons. Some roads filled with so much water, you needed a kayak to get around. Abcs ginger zee has the latest on hardhit areas across the country. Reporter up to 4 inches of rain in 12 hours for parts of new hampshire. The m train is completely flooding. Reporter parts of flooding swallowing byu, idaho. The culprit, one fastmoving storm, dropping two inches of rain in less than an hour. How does two inches of rain turn into this . It has a lot to do with where the school is located. Byu idaho is on the slope of a hill. It rushed down into the campus, in a valley. The drainage system was unable to handle that water. And lightning injuring at least four people near houston. And a frightening tale from taylor russell. Taylor, her sister and some friends, standing on the edge of a swollen creek during mondays heavy rains in pennsylvania, when taylor suddenly fell in. I didnt know there was a drop in the ground there. And i went under. And was trying to get up. And my friends tried helping me. And they couldnt. Reporter helpless, the group watching, as taylor was swept underground for a halfmile through a drainpipe, holding her breath the whole time, certain she was going to die. Taylor made it out with only bumps and bruises. We may see stories like that again. Flood w
