the victim told police that he had $70,000 to be deposited when the robbers came up on him from behind and blocked him into this parking lot, parking spot, i should say. we're told there are a number of witnesses headed into the grocery store when those masked men opened fire. in the evening sun, you could see the busted out front window of the victim's minivan still sitting in the parking spot where he'd been robbed and shot. the suspects waited for their victim in this lot for more than an hour and cameras captured them speeding off in this white minivan. >> all i seen was people running into the store as the shots were fired. >> reporter: taking cover? >> running into the store, yes, for safety. >> reporter: investigators tell us they got numerous 911 calls after 6:00. the store's parking lot was bustling when the 37-year-old victim and opwner of several nearby businesses pulled up. >> there were dozens of people in the parking lot. parking lot was almost completely full. >> reporter: security cameras captured the suspect's van, a white dodge with roof racks arriving more than an hour earlier. police believe the two masked men waited for their victim, rushed up and blocked in his car, broke out his windows, demanded his cash, and shot him in the arm before speeding away southbound. as he was rushed to the hospital, the victim told police the stolen bag of cash for deposit contained $70,000. a targeted attack, police believe. >> the motive obviously for the shooting is rabry and it appears that this particular victim was the intended target. >> reporter: alongside the victim's van, his handgun which police say was in the vehicle but never moved dug this attack. for those who witnessed the attack and its aftermath, this busy shopping plaza has a digit feel. >> my wife comes here all the time. i don't think she'll ever be coming here anymore. at least i'll tell her not to. >> reporter: that victim will survive. he's in stable condition at area torresdale with a gunshot wound to his arm. police are protecting his identity by not telling us about the types of businesses he owns, but investigators are hoping the public will get a good look at the getaway van and provide the tips that may crack this case. live tonight in the northeast, george spencer, nbc 1xdr$/ news. new at 11:00, a tractor trailer crashes into a family's philadelphia row home sending two people to the hospital tonight. nbc 10's nefertiti jaquez is in the may their section of philadelphia. you talked to the homeowner tonight. >> reporter: tonight she's frustrated and says this is the second time something like this has happened just this month. the first time two cars crashed and one ended up on her front lawn and now this. >> i've got my kids, my kids was sitting right there, they were home watching tv. playing games, whatever. it would have been a nightmare. >> reporter: cindy broke down into tears of the thought that her three kids ould hacould hav killed when the tractor trailer came barreling into their home. the mom says she and her family were not home at the time of the crash. she rushed to the scene from work after getting a call from her neighbor about what happened. >> they thought it was an earthquake. it was a loud boom. >> reporter: it unfolded around 7:00 at the corner of farnsworth. the driver of the suv ran the red light before colliding with the tractor trailer. >> to avoid the accident, he turned and lost control of the car and crashed directly into the house. >> reporter: both drivers were placed on stretchers and taken to the hospital. the mother of the man driving the suv showed up after learning about the crash. >> came running over. they said they took him to the hospital. it was awful. >> reporter: we're told both drivers only suffered minor injuries. as for the homeowner, she's upset. she tells us this is the second time this month an accident like this one has happened at the her home. >> nobody cares. nobody's doing anything. until somebody cares unless somebody die in there? >> reporter: as we come back out live, you see the rubble, debris and the gaping hole that leads into this family's living room. firefighters out here trying to clean up this mess and fire officials tell us they have deemed the home unsafe. structurally unsafe. of course, that family will not be able to stay here. mom tells us she will now be forced to stay with her brother and his family. that is the very latest from may fair, nefertiti jaquez, nbc 10 news. new information tonight on the three men kidnapped and thrown into the schuylkill river. we know the two people killed were brothers and know the motive behind wednesday's abduction. it was drug money. police telling us the brother received $100,000 to buy drugs to supply an illegal drug operation. instead, investigators say they went to a local casino and lost it all. forced to try to replace the cash, their friend tried to help but could only come up with $40,000. that's when as many as five guys slashed them, put weights around the brothers' legs and threw all three of them in the river. the friend survived and is now in critical condition. police say they know who they are looking for and they're making good progress. >> they have a lot of money, and they have a lot of different locations they've lived at through the years, so right now we don't know where they're at or where they're headed. >> also tonight, police towed this car. it's somehow connected to the case but police aren't saying right now how. new at 11:00 -- a scene like this one will soon play out in another philadelphia community and tonight neighbors voicing their anger over the plan in germantown. this is the 2008 demolition of mantua hall and a couple weeks they want to do the same to the queen hall tower. lu ann cahn attended tonight's public hearing about it and talked to neighbors who have safety concerns about it. >> reporter: some believe when this 16-floor building finally comes down, it will be the best thing that ever happened in this neighborhood. but this woman isn't so sure. >> under my feet, in my house. >> reporter: miriam davis lives on the street across from the queen lane housing department. a week from saturday, the city says she'll have to evacuate with her children and pets at 4:00 in the morning. the eye sore high-rise will be imploded to make room for a new low rise public housing project. >> you won't tell me, i can't breathe now, you're telling me i'll be able to brooet laeath l? >> reporter: some of the families told to evacuate gathered tonight, a few insist they're already being impacted by the demolition and are frustrated with the response. >> so what about our sons' asthma, my neighbor's crazy break wro breakout into hives, what about the rodents? >> reporter: what they say they're experiencing has nothing to do with the project? >> it doesn't appear to be. >> reporter: they definitely feel that it -- >> that's something that, you know, again, we will look at. >> reporter: contractors and city officials promise to monitor air quality, trap rod t rodents, repair any damage. >> sometime you have to do a little hardship to get it better. >> reporter: hundreds offing in surrounding blocks will have to shelter inside their homes during the 7:15 a.m. implosion. davis is among those being offered bus transportation to a comfort shelter. but she told officials tonight she's not leaving. officials said, oh, yes, she is. for her own safety. live in germantown, lu ann cahn, nbc 10 news. new at 11:00, skyforce 10 over a deck collapse tonight in gloucester county, new jersey. the decking gave way around 7:30. a dog got caught under all this debris. rescue crews were able to rescue that animal and no one was hurt. also new at 11:00, a woman was taken to the hospital after this housefire tonight in montgomery county. skyforce 10 over this scene on gary lane in norristown around 7:30e en ttonight. firefighters quickly put out the flames and woman's injuries are not serious. tonight, hurricane cristobal's movement should help ease dangerous rip currents at the jersey shore and delaware beaches. at the indian river inlet in delaware, we found surfers enjoying a good week of waves but the rip currents have been dangerous for swimmers. first alert chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz is here now tracking that risk that remains ahead of the holiday weekend. glenn, tell us about it. >> yeah, jim, that risk is going to be going down, but going down gradually over the next couple of days. this is the track of cristobal. you can see going straight to the north. on the east side of that, the winds push the water and it's all pushed in the same direction. and it creates a momentum, and day after day after day after this. now that the storm has made that right turn, that momentum is stopped. but you got momentum of waves, it takes a little while for it to slow down. so we have the dangerous rip currents the last couple of days. it's going to slowly diminish. one of the things that's happening is the wind is blowing offshore. that helps a bit, too. so the rip current risk is high tonight. moderate on friday. and going down a little bit from there. but we have the heat going in and storms as well. the rest of the holiday weekend forecast just a few minutes. the funeral will be held tomorrow in jerusalem for a student from ocean county, new jersey. his body found today a week after he disappeared in israel. searchers found aharon sofer's body. investigators say there are no signs of foul play. those who know sofer say he was not an experienced hiker. police tell next 10 he may have slipped and fallen. he leaves behind nine siblings. the funeral will be held at the school where sofer was studying. now to the casino crisis in atlanta city. new information tonight about job help for the thousands of soon to be unemployed casino workers. the department of labor and workforce development will be on hand to help laid off workers find new jobs. they'll be at the atlantic city convention center from september 3rd through the 10th from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. this is a joint effort between governor chris christie's administration and a union that represents many of atlantic city's casino workers. show boat is closing this coming sunday. on monday, the revel hotel family. president barack obama is blaming russia for the escalating violence in eastern ukraine. at the white house today, president said the u.s. might impose new economic sanctions on russia, but he's ruling out any military options. as for syria, the pent fwagon i developing a strategy if the president decides to launch an attack with isis there. he spoke with reporters before meeting with his national security advisers to discuss options for confronting that terror group. the nfl is taking a stronger stance against domestic violence after the controversial suspension of baltimore ravens running back ray rice. this incident right here inside revel casino back in february started it all. it shows rice dragging his apparently unconscious fiancee out of an elevator. the couple have since married. rice entered a diversion program and the nfl suspended him for two games. many said his punishment should have been more severe. today, the nfl commissioner announced a first-time domestic violence offender could now get a six-game suspension and a repeat offender could be banned for life. this new policy goes into effect immediately. in a letter to owners, nfl commissioner roger goodell commented about rice's suspension saying, "i didn't get it right. simply put, we have to do better." new at 11:00, the hunt for a burglary suspect who broke into an ocean county school not once, but twice in the same day. during the first break-in at st. dominic's school in brick on monday, a staff member caught the burglar inside the locked building, but police say the suspect covered his tracks by asking the officer, or the staffer, for more information about the school. the same guy returned later that night and used keys to open the school and steal cash and school supplies from the main office. police are still trying to identify and find him. in delaware county today, a rally and concert for peace and education. ♪ nbc 10 here at the summer finale of the peace on the streets concert series in chester park. there was a message with this music. it came from community empowerment groups and educators. event sponsored in part by the chester upland school yesterday. and the temperature has really been cooling down. only 81 today. 79 tomorrow. 83 saturday. then we go back up and we're talking back up to 90-plus. and more than one day of it, too. right now temperatures are really cooling off nicely. in the low 60s in many of the suburbs. that means it's going to get well down into theallentown, mi wilmington. atlantic city airport, 61. dry conditions across the area. that's no secret. there's no rain until we get back to chicago. we've seen this before, haven't we? going to take a couple days for the moisture to get here. let's see what
